what the critics say

Metro

Marina O'Loughlin - 4/5

Wednesday, July 18, 2012 - In an off-piste Holborn byway, you'll find some of the finest steak in town...After some meaty, marinated aubergine, and a couple of the best empanadas I've had in this country - short, crisp pastry stuffed with beef or cheese and sweetcorn – we try a thick-cut angosto (sirloin), perfectly seared, rested and seasoned. The knife glides through its rosy interior, each bite bursting with ripe, beefy juiciness. A cuadril (rump), though tougher, has an even greater depth of flavour.

TimeOut

Guy Dimond - 3/5

Friday, May 04, 2012 - We tried the rump, which arrived rare as requested, the outside nicely browned yet the interior tender; the meat was full flavoured and well seasoned. Order steak, and that's all you'll get. The golden-hued, crisp chips are listed as a side dish, as is the chimichurri sauce (similar to salsa verde). A steak burger was similarly spartan: no bun, just a patty of moist beef, though this dish did at least come with chips on the side and a slice of cheese on top. The menu's brief, the grilled meats being the main draw. But other Argentinian specialities are also done well.

Went with group of around 8 early in evening mid-week. Calm unpretentious welcoming atmosphere. Tables and decor functional and business like. The emphasis here is firmly on the service and the quality of the steak and wines. We were not disappointed. The friendly, knowledgeable, helpful staff explained the cuts of beef and helped with choices.

Service was prompt- a strong Argentine wine list, heavily biased towards Malbecs but also blended wines and Cab Sav. Range of years, varying styles, degrees of oak etc. We had one fairly dry beautiful oaky Malbec which was a great partner to the main event the steaks.

Great flavour, cooked evenly to rare. Perfect chips.

Highly recommended.

This is in my opinion by some margin the best steak I have had in London and I have eaten at all the standard places, (Gaucho, Hawksmoor, Goodmans Etc) which are all great, but the service, the welcome from the waiting staff, the wines, and the quality of the meat are absolutely top class at the Bull Steak Expert. I have been back (just to check that it was not a fluke the first time), and again amazing food and wine.

This is such a fantastic restaurant. The enthusiasm and knowledge they have for their dishes and wine is really wonderful, and is totally backed up by the standard of food which was served. My partner and I both had the rib eye steak, cooked to perfection!!! The care and attention to detail combined with the restaurants relaxing atmosphere, makes this restaurant really unique. 10 / 10
