MEAT Market is the second permanent venture from Yianni Papoutsis and the MEAT Liquor team. Situated in Covent Garden's Jubilee Market Hall, it's a smaller fast food-style eatery serving familiar favourites and new dishes like jalapeno poppers, a messy onion-heavy Black Palace burger, and a deep-fried bacon-wrapped hot dog.

TimeOut - 3/5

Thursday, May 10, 2012 - There's no getting away from it, our sloppy, juicy burger was pretty special...It's not huge, so if you're hungry, you'll need a side order - our 'poppaz' (jalapeno peppers stuffed with cheese, breaded then deep fried) were outstanding, but the string fries were woody and bland. This wasn't the only disappointment. What they call a 'ripper', a giant hot dog, looked the part, but didn't quite deliver. Sure, it was a proper 'brat' (a fat German pork sausage, served the Yankee way, in a soft finger bun with crisp fried onions and bacon bits) - but our bun was soggy and the kitchen was heavy-handed with the mustard.

Went to try out this place as I love burgers and fancied a change from GBK across the road. For what you pay I found it quite expensive and the burgers aren't that big either, but was very tasty! If going here for an evening meal be prepared to wait as the queues can start trailing down the stairs. Chips were ok nothing special. My mate had the hot dog, it wasn't great - like a massive frankfurter and had tons of sauce sloshed on it, had to wipe off some of the sauce as it that much. So good food, but as soon as you've finished your last bite of food your tabled is cleared in whirlwind givng you a blatant hint, off you go.

We found for 2 of us with mains and sides and drinks £33 is bit steep.

Tamarind and Thyme

Tamarind and Thyme

Tuesday, June 19, 2012 - Best of the bunch was the Dead Hippy, their supposed take on In-N-Out's Double Double Cheeseburger Animal Style (but doesn't an animal style burger have grilled onions?). Two patties, cheese, special sauce, lettuce, onions, pickle. Hmm...it sounds a bit like a Big Mac. OK, whatever it's supposed to emulate, it was a fantastic burger. The deep fried sides were all excellent. The Fries were crisp and the perfect burger accompaniment. The Poppaz were brilliant jalapeno and cheese croquettes that were best when fresh out of the fryer. Corn Puppies were mini corn dogs made with little Polish sausages. These were delicious with their tender cornbread exteriors, taut sausage skins and the sweet mustard dip.

Wednesday, May 30, 2012 - Mmm. Tastes like a Meatwagon...those rich beefy flavours. The mince is quite loose, almost like panfried corned beef, it even came slightly pink (we did not ask for preference). I noticed how the bread was moist and crumpled, and spotted metal cloches by the grill in the kitchen. But for me, my only grip were that the heart-stopping leak down the cheeks juiciness (which the classic burgers are famous for) were significantly reduced...Melting cheese with chopped jalapenos oozing from the fried parcels, the poppaz were ok. We would have liked to have had some buffalo wings instead.
