I'm local to the area and a fan of the scoffers restaurant. I have to admit to being suprised by some of the reviews here. In my eyes this is a lovely local restaurant serving decent 'homely' type food as well as some good modern cuisine dishes. The prices are pretty typical for the area but I usual feel like I get good value as the portion sizes are decent.

I wouldn't put it on top of your list if you're heading out for a date or looking to impress. It's not that type of up market restaurant and I don't think it's trying to be. However, if you're looking for a pleasant, relaxed evening out with good service and enjoyable food then this is a decent choice. The atmosphere is quite intimate and my girlfiend likes the fact that there is an indoor tree as a focal point of the decor.

The fajitas, clod burgers and sunday roasts are some of my regular choices.

We were very disappointed with our whole experience. We were told about the little place in Battersea about 18 months ago by friends who would regularly go there to dine but have since moved to the States. After hearing so much about the restaurant we finally made a reservation over Christmas.

We were greeted very well and the people aspect remained great and pleasant until the very end. However the rest of the evening proved to be not a memorable experience.

The restaurant itself looked cheap. The ambient light and modern design seemed as if it was made out of IKEA.

Having started with the goat’s cheese was a big mistake, firstly the price, thinking that it would be a creamy Cornish or Rosary but not so, but a cheap log that is available at most supermarkets and very badly put together. My partner could only push her parfait away as it tasted sour.

The most anticipated sirloin was a tiny piece of a steak which was the tenderest one I’ve had, yet it was basically a chunk of fat. I do know that sirloin beef is famous for its fat, which should be distributed throughout the cut and not simply be placed on a plate as a square chunk. So great flavour in the little piece of meat I was able to find on the plate and the rest is just fat. My partners Chicken Fajitas were fine but tasted of beef and the chopped tomatoes came from a tin.

The desert was a big disappointment as it seemed it was one out of premixed box. Having lived and worked in the states for the past 9 years, my view would be forget it, save your money and cook at home.
