Eds Easy Diner (Soho)

After an evening at the opera we found Eds Easy Diner on our way to Leicester Square tube station. We were celebrating both my birthday and our wedding anniversary. A warm welcome and friendly service. The food was excellent and the milk shake (peanut butter and banana malt) was to die for - I put on 3lbs just looking at it. All in all a great place to eat, good service, great atmosphere and excellent food. No it's not the cheapest place to eat in town - but a fun place to spoil yourself even if you only have a milkshake and a burger.

I don't understand (or really believe) the stories about being hassled for extra tips as a 12.5% service charge is included on the bill.

Eat at Eds and die happy!!!

Like a previous reviewer, I was also hassled for the 2.5% extra after leaving a 10% tip. I was leaving with three other people at the time and the member of staff literally shouted across the counter at us when we had just left through the door. Unfortunately I was too embarrassed and shocked (not to mention stupid ¬_¬) to tell them to get lost. The food is ok, but overpriced. The service isn't anything to write home about.. I can think of a lot of occasions when I have been in there and the staff have been rude to customers waiting for seats or not eating fast enough. Grab a takeout milkshake if you have to get something, although why you pay the same for a takeout milkshake as an eat in one when the takeout is half the size is beyond me...

I have never had a sit down meal here, I admit. For me, though it's just a case of a grabbing a luxuriously bad-for-me chocolate malt milkshake to go. It's not cheap, but it's well worth it when out and about on hot London days.

Or even cold ones.

this is easily the best burger place in town! i love it here. Good music, good shakes, fries, burgers, well everything.

I would say its a little expencive, but its worth it!

The one bad point, not enough seats, and its busy, but thats cos its fab!

so overall ITS GREAT!

As a resident and not a tourist, it is disappointing to offer this review. I brought a friend and her two daughters for dessert and perhaps a malt to take in the whole diner experience.

After informing the doorman our intentions were for dessert, he indicated a 10 minute wait and invited us inside. After 15 minutes there were 4 seats for us and we eagerly approached the bar already tasting the apply pie with ice cream.

We were promptly informed of a £5 FOOD minimum per person and the pie didn't meet the minimum. Unfortunately, we had already had lunch so didn't want anything more.

I asked to speak with management about our disappointment. We were clear with the doorman who made no mention of the mimimum and we waited 15 minutes to be seated to be declined declined service.

The manager's response - 'that's our policy and I will talk with the doorman. If I made an exception for you, I would have to do that for everyone.'

A more appropriate approach perhaps would have been to serve the pie in far less time than a full meal (freeing the seats more quickly) and likely experience our future business.

I have no intention of ever returning to Ed's and will make a point to inform all friends of this unfortunate experience.

I've been here a couple of times and had the onion rings and chips. A good variety of dips but disappointing chips.

However I would go back there again due to the attitudes regarding tipping. I literally emptied out my wallet to give a 10% tip and the waitress then hassled us regards the other 2.5%! The service was nothing special and if I chose to give a 10% tip I shouldn't be hassled for more money.

Went last night. 9:45 on a Friday in the West End. It should have been packed. The only other diner was a member of staff. I am not surprised. This, by a long way, is the worst burger I have had for a very long time. Overcooked, underseasoned, poor quality meat. Unremittingly awful. Not a patch on previous visits to this chain. Avoid.

Eds is the best place to chow down in London, great food, great music and at a really fair price!!!

The milkshakes are the best thing on the menu, served in a huge metal jug just like in the 50s and 60s!!

Always worth a visit when your in London Town!
