A decent attempt at the theme (despite being part of a chain), but let down by the careless staff and a hugely overpriced menu. £9.30 for a chilli cheese dog (made from bog standard ingredients) and a soda? That's not steep, it's vertical.

I wanted to to write to Ed's and complain via their website but for some reason there is no facillity to contact them.
On a trip to the west end of london last saturday 30/7/11 with my 11yo daughter, i convinced her to try eating lunch at Ed's soho which i used to visit regularly some 10 yrs or so ago as the burgers are to die for. NOT !!!
If i had not been refunded by an apologetic manager, i would have paid £5.45p
for the most disgusting burger i have ever tasted. The burger was of the cheapest
kind available, the sort you get from an ice cream van at a festival or football match made from mechanically seperated meat. The bun, again cheap mass produced rubbish which disintegrated in to a sloppy mess because of the fat from the burger and the fried onions which were more like an oily pulp ..
The staff ,apart from the manager were totally unapologetic and rude . One,
a gentleman from north of the border insisted on shouting "this man is not happy with his burger" to the other members of staff . I'm sure this was an attempt to embarrass me in front of the other customers. After some words with him he replied "oh well, a lot can happen in 10 years" ....Not the answer i expected , as i felt i would have been contributing to his wages...
While this was going on ,there was an American guy with his wife who were drinking a coffie and a milkshake were being told that they could not stay and drink alone. "why didnt you tell me when i ordered" was the poor guys reply....
I will never eat there again.........

My boyfriend and I have made special trips from Nottingham just to visit Ed's as we are both into the rockabilly/vintage/1950's era, and have always enjoyed our trips to our fave diner until last weekend.
We called into Ed's last Saturday as for our fave milkshakes, however after taking a seat and waiting for at least 20 minutes, we were thrown two menus by a very surly waitress, after a further ten she came back and asked us what we wanted. We asked for two milkshakes and back came the reply, "I can't serve you" when we aked why, we were told, "You can't be served because you haven't ordered food". We were then asked to leave in a rather abrupt manner.
Needless to say after this treatment, which somehow ruined our whole expereince and happy memories of Ed's, we will not be going back... However if you want bad service and bad manners this is the place to find it. I'll be taking my custom elsewhere from now on.

I have been to Ed's a number of time. Funny that the service was great when we were a large group, but when there are two or three it is shockingly bad.
The last time, the owner was rude. There was a hard sell to buy more food than we wanted. The quality of the food has dropped significantly.
The only remaining good aspects are the milkshakes.
I recommend sitting at the counter, getting a shake, and going.

Tried Eds last night after quite a few years away as i was really wanting a good burger etc
Not impressed. A few onion rings, small cheeseburger & a small beer came to £13
I'm sure it used to be better than this - the burger was like a McDonalds one, thin, uninspiring and gone in about 4 bites.
There are loads of better burger places nowadays, this joint has really lost its shine, sad to say .

I went there for lunch. I have been craving for a good burger for a while. I wanted to try. However, I was disappointed. I ordered Classic Combo Deal with fries, onion rings and coleslaw. It says on the menu it comes on a big plate. Yes, on a big plate but portion is not that big. Several onion rings, ok amount of fries and ok sized burger. Fries were not the best but still ok. Onion rings were a bit different for me. Onions were really thick and some were not cooked well. Neither of them were fresh. I think that was the main problem.
Burger tasted ok. However, patty was not big enough to say "we are an american diner". And the lettuce in the burger was just making eating the burger more difficult. Lettuce was really tasteless.
In short, I paid 8.35 for combo deal. I don't think I will go there again. Food is average so why I should pay more for an average burger.

I will never be going to Ed's Diner again.
Why? Taste and price - a bit like Pulp Fiction: a $5 milkshake should tase like one. At Ed's, a £7 hotdog is the same as one you would buy for £2 of the street. Rubbish! Service - friendly but had the hard sell... to a point I changed my attitude from friendly to leave me alone. The atmosphere is good (Happy Days diner etc) but you feel shortchanged for rubbish food. Don't go.

My family and I had a great meal here - the burgers were excellent and tasty and the milkshakes were divine!!! The staff were excellent and very attentive!! The only downside is that the restaurant is tiny. My children really enjoyed their meals and the size of the sundae my daughter had was huge!!! It was a really enjoyable experience and would try Ed's again.

Overpriced, tasteless, McDonald's quality food and rude staff. The worst eating experience I've ever had.
