The Weir Bar & Dining Room

I have been here several times for a drink and have often encountered bad service. Once a friend and I thought we would try out the food, but we gave up after waiting for ages for service (on a very quiet evening) despite our efforts to let them know we wanted to order.
The service has not been bad everytime, just most times, and to the extent when it is very bad to the point of rudeness. Granted, if you wanted to try it out, you might get the staff on a 'good' day.

Frankly this trumped up restaurant, a pub by any other name, doesn't deserve the business.
Booked a table for 2 five days in advance. Arrived @ 7.00pm Saturday to an empty restaurant then given the worse possible table - by the door. Asked to be moved and got almost as bad one in the middle of the room.
Staff surly and uncaring, service slow. Food very good but highly priced.
People arrived, unbooked, throughout the evening and were given best tables overlooking the weir and around the room. One person even got a table for 4 to himself.

I used to work in Brentford and had visited the Weir on several occasions but never eaten in the dining room till last Saturday. I have to say it was reasonably good if a little expensive. I visited with my Girlfriend and three friends.
Disappointingly our (three of us) choice of starter was not available, but my second choice of potato and chorizo salad was tasty. Myself and GF had the Chateaubriand which was cooked to perfection. The chips left a little to be desired however - I am tired of getting "chunky chips" which are little more than big soggy bits of spud. The Spinach we had as a side was delicious. For dessert, I had a taste of the GF's Baileys Creme Brulee. While I am not a fan of that particular dessert (creme brulee), I have to say I would order that for myself if I visited again.
The winelist was a nicely balanced between new and old world wines, with a few light French reds there for me, and plent of full flavoured Cab Sauvs for the others on the table. All in all, somewhere I would go back to but not straight away.
Very quiet for a saturday night though. Only about four other tables full at peak 8pm

The atmosphere and ambience are very good. But that's the only good thing I have to say. The food was average and overpriced. The service was slow and the staff were rude.
I was embarassed that I took my friends there. I will never visit this pub again.

Ghastly. My steak was edible but the accompanying roast potatoes smelt of old fat, just like the smell from those burger vans you find parked outside B&Q. For £14.50 this was a rip-off.

Just moved! Told I would hate it! How wrong??? Great food. OK service. Told staff when there was problem, cold soup. Lovely manager came to see us and offered replacement. It was cooked to perfection and then it was followed by an even better main course. Fab staff. Fab food. Can't wait to come back

The Weir continues to progress and improve as a bona fide, top end Gastro venue. Consistently it excels in all the areas you want it too. Really delicious, moorish food (the best pork belly and crackling I've had in ages), excellent wine selection, good beer and great service from really friendly staff (the last reviewer did not meet the owner I met; a young woman who was positively charming). There really is no-one in the area who comes close and I recommend you eat, drink and relax there soon!
