The North Star

I have to say this place has got a great potential but the lack of stack (only 2chefs in the kitchen and 1 waiter) absolutely spoilt my valentine's day..
Who on earth would leave a nice place like this so badly run on one of the busiest day for the catering industry?? The only waiter couldnt care less about his job and it took a wopping 1h to the starter and another 45mn for the main..
Beware! make sure to check the staff level of this place before you go ruining your evening!

A wonderful bar with real character. The North Star is a welcome antithesis to the plethora of bland soulless drinking holes we've grown accustomed to. The service is prompt and friendly and I'm yet to find a better looking team of staff within the M25!

Simply the best gastro bar in North London and home from home for my girlfriend and I.
I had my birthday here last month with 50 of my closest friends and would highly recommend it as a veneue!!

Have to agree. Since management change this place is superb. Both food and wine menus are now great quality AND good value.
Plus, the atmosphere is great with a really relaxed feel. Which is not to say that the pub isn't very smart.
Now one of the better gastro offers in the area.

Living in the area, I had driven past the North Star on numerous occasions and had always been curious as to what went on inside. And I must say that I was very pleasantly surprised.
It is worth noting that the management changed in March/April 2006 and it was excellent. The service was friendly and attentive and the food was superb (and reasonably priced).
In my opinion, the best gastro pub in Islington. Don't waste your money at the House or the Duke of Cambridge - go here instead. Visit sooner rather than later though because if they carry on like this, you won't be able to get a table before long.

I went to the North Star on a Sunday brunch / lunch time for a quick bite to eat with two friends. The menu was a little bit light on breakfast / brunch type things - so we all ordered the fry up......and almost an hour later we finally got our food.
After about 45 minutes of waiting we enquired as to the whereabouts of our food. We were told that it was just being 'put on the plate'. 10 minutes after this it still hadn't arrived, and we suggested that perhaps that guy who took our order had not actually remembered to inform the kitchen. He assured us that he was in fact completely blameless and the delay was actually down to the fact that it takes 'at least 35 minutes to cook a sausage' (!?!?).
The food, when it arrived, was good, but by that time we were pretty fed up. To be fair they did take some money off the bill to compensate, so at least that's something.
'North Star' ?, 'North Starve' more like....
I wont be going back.
