The North Pole is a lovely cosy pub on an otherwise uninteresting stretch of Essex Road. They have a huge range of constantly rotating beers, ales and ciders. There's a relaxed dining area near the open kitchen and lots of little nooks where you can settle in with a drink and a newspaper.
We popped in for a drink and ended up ordering some excellent meatballs and a surprisingly delicious chicken pie. (Great flaky pastry, a generous amount of well-seasoned filling, and lovely buttery mash on the side). They do a Tuesday deal of a rack of ribs or bucket of hot wings for £10, including a pint, which seems like good value.
If we lived nearby, we would be regulars! The little garden at the back looks like it would be a sun trap in the summer.
