I've got to say this restaurant is the best vietnamese restaurant that I've tried. Me and my friend ate the grill scallop and the steam roll with port for my starter. It's all tasty. and also the asparagus for my mail course is supe nice, I never eat this one before. All I need to do is to listen to the staff's recommendations and enjoy my meal.

With free vietnamese picked green when we came in, and free orange desert, I dined with candle and all vietnamese pictures around I would like to say this restaurant is the ever best that I've tried and I think our bill is reasonable about under 20 pounds per person.

That was busy when we got in but the service is fast, polite and efficient. I definitely come back for my diner.

I went to the restaurant last Friday. The service is great. I tried rare beef with lime and beef rice noodle soup and both of them were very tasty. I will come back, for sure!!

well, went there last week. i would say that the atmosphere is OK, service is really great but problem was with the food. Stir fried noodles - too salty and bathing in oil...ew, couldn't eat that. Maybe i will try something else next time. dont know, it's average rest, i believe that there are better places to dine.

I have tried many Vietnamese restaurant in Kingsland Rd but this my worst experience. The restaurant has a very new dec which something half western half orient. Service was really good but cant help out the food as they have a half chinese, half vietnamese menu. My steamed roll starter was bland but bathing in an anchovy fish sauce to cover it up. Mains were even worse. My mutton arrived to be a lamb dish, with over seasoned with a funny taste that you cant tell it is chinese, mongolian, thai or vietnamese food. What a waste of money and time to dine there.

This is the best restaurant I've ever been to. I really like Asian food and used to eat in some Chinese restaurants in Leicester Square but the service there is not quite good. I've been to Au Lac restaurant (which has been changed into Que Viet) recently and found the Vietnamese food there is fantastic, perhaps the best Asian dishes I've ever tried. I ordered crispy prawn cakes with sweet potato, Que Viet grilled fish on hot pan and rice noodle soup with beef and garlic. They were all hot and yummy. The restaurant was quite busy at that time but the staff was really polite and I didn't have to wait for long. The atmosphere is great as well. I came with some friends and we all felt comfortable sitting there. Highly recommended!!!

I've tried eating in this restaurant. This is the best vietnamese restaurant I meant the deco , the food and also drinks (all french wines with reasonable price ). I tried the steam nail, picked green, stir fried beef in noodle soup , hanoi sweet potatoes pancake even the pork steam roll is much nicer than other restaurants . The staff is so polite... great atmosphere . Strongly recommended...!!!

i went to new AU LAC on Friday 2/May, for everyone it's called Que Viet now, it's still 104 Kingsland Road. Well i can say that it's much more better now. The dec is really nice, staff very polite and they were always there when i needed. The restaurant was very busy at the time i went there. We ordered 4 tiger beers, orange juice, 4 tap waters, 2 minutes and it was on our table. Food was on our table in 5 minutes after order. Amazingly fast and nice service. Still dont know how they manage to serve drinks and food so fast at the busiest time. wow, just amazing

I cannot understand the 2 or 3 poor reviews here. Can I say its a superb restaurant. It never fails to impress. Being a regular traveller to Vietnam Au Lac is one of the few Vietnamese restaurants in London I've been to that produces food with a clear, clean taste - authentic Vietamese food more along the lines of North Vietnamese cuisine. The portions are big, the service is good, the staff are friendly. The decor may not be plush but it has a nice feel of being in a large restaurant in Vietnam. Eating Pho is like being taken back to having Pho in Hanoi. Its a good place to come as a single or couple or in a large group and its often packed with groups of Vietnamese.

I went to Au Lac with 17 friends for my birthday celebrations. It was absolutely brilliant and the best choice for a really fun birthday celebration. We arrived at 7.30 pm and stayed for three hours! The staff were attentive and friendly but not at all pushy and seemed happy for us to take an hour before we ordered anything. The food was absolutely delicious - especially the peking duck and crispy seaweed (never had any so good - not even in Vietnam!) The real highligh for me was when the waiters came out singing happy birthday and presented me with a (free) birthday icecream treat. The owner of the restaurant was snapping away on a digital camera and on leaving the restuarant presented me copies of the photos he took - such a thoughtful great reminder of a fantastic birthday!

Thank you so much!

My poor date - if he was purely trying to impress me by taking me to this restaurant, I think we would both be single right now.

We went to this restaurant on a Friday night and it was packed. The only reasons I can think of for this, are either that the other poor customers had read the rave reviews (like ourselves), or because the portions are large and inexpensive.

This restaurant failed to impress me in any way whatsover. Bad decor I can usually overlook but the food was bland, overcooked and unauthentic and the service was slow and unattentive.

I just hope that other customers have not lost out on friends/family/(potential) partners as a result of eating at this restaurant.
