We chanced upon this cosy little restaurant on my way to the cinema this Saturday, so we came back for a meal after the film, and were so glad we had! The atmosphere was warm, relaxed and friendly, and the food was excellent. It is so refreshing to find an alternative to the soulless chains that Richmond seems to be full of. We will definitely be coming back for more!

Fabulous, a bit of Paris in the heart of Richmond, i found the Red Room, while i was on a night out in Richmond about 4 years ago, we went there for a quick dinner with a bunch of friends, the food was not pretentious but very fresh and spot on!!!! the atmosphere very chilled, Yes the place is small and sometime very cramped but it's all part its charm. A bistro like, we have back in France, not too expensive (about £28 per person for 2 courses and some very drinkable wine) for great food, great atmosphere and Je ne sais Quoi..............!!!!

And i go back there again, again and again!!!!!!!!!!!!

Barb and I have been coming here on and off for about five years. We can honestly say that our experiences have always been brilliant. A great little find, off the beaten track, always nice for a romantic table for two. The atmosphere is great and the staff very attentative. The food is everything it should be without being over complicated and fussy. We thoroughly recommend this to anyone wanting a consistent place to enjoy a night out.

Having read the reviews here and excellent recommendations from local celebrities in the Richmond magazine I thought I'd give The Red Room a try.

What a big mistake...I should have taken more notice of the less than favourable reviews on this site. They are correct.

My crab and coriander fishcakes were just mashed potato cakes.I couldn't taste any crab.My friend asked for a green salad to start and was given a bowl of dry lettuce leaves.I had sausages with bubble and squeak at £12 hoping for something special at that price.I would've had better at a greasy spoon. My friends chicken dish was dry and a very small portion at that.( £13.50 )

With one pudding and a carafe of wine,I can't believe I've spent £55 for such awful food.As we were leaving another customer was sending his food back saying it was so chewy he couldn't eat it.

The ambience is lovely. What a shame the food is so abysmal.

Went there this eve. It was terrible. Food was cold, tasteless. £42 quid it was! waitress was friendly and accomodating - wish the chef knew what he or she was doing.... real shame. It has alot of potential to make a good restaurant. wine list was ok and mustard was the original Dijon jar but thats about it! sorry red room.

Nice little place, maybe a bit cramped and the waitresses were not the most attentive, but the food was lovely and the drink was reasonably priced, I'd go again.....

we went over the weekend and totally enjoyed ourselves .

The food was fantastic, especially the tiger prawn linguine,

and the wine list we like. We all will be back. Thanks girls for a good night.

Went to have Red Rooms Valentine's dinner menu for £27 per head. Food was fabulous, we had salmon & tomatoe soup for starters, lamb for main course and some very sweet chocolate & lemon cake desert.

The highlight was the lamb, I will go back again for that same dish again someday! Cooked perfectly and with a good choice of side vegetables. Great to taste! Fabulous main course, bravo!

Not such good things:- small restaurant, tables were pretty dinky and small. Waitress was lively but didn't have basic manners (i.e. saying thank you) and the desert was a "bit cheap".. looks like from tesco or asda. I don't think it was hand made.

Ah... the fickle nature of reviewers. Well, i'd been to The Red Room for a £9 lunchtime special some time last year, and had been pretty happy with it. This time round, I chose it for an early evening work team dinner - and was pretty disappointed. Being 7pm on a Tuesday, it was (unsurprisingly) deserted. You might have thought this would have meant excellent service, a relaxed chef and a group of satisfied customers. Sadly not. In truth, the service was absolutely fine (considering how empty the place was, you'd hope so!). However, five of us had steaks (2 medium, 1 well-done and 2 medium rare). Mine should have been the latter, but was more cooked than the medium - which was well-done. No doubt my colleague whose steak was well-done was happy, but then it's pretty tricky to get that wrong. The "peppercorn sauce" was thin, insipid and devoid of peppercorns, and the "chunky chips" turned out to be little more than soggy oven chips. All in all, a nice-looking restaurant which seems to be (a) living on borrowed time, and (b) horribly inconsistent. I'd almost have preferred it to be a dreadful experience - at least i'd remember that. As it was, my mediocre meal here will prove to be entirely forgettable.
