Sushi Bar Gen

Sushi Gen has the best Japanese in West Hampstead. The fish is super fresh and everything is made in front of you. I can highly recommend the salmon and tuna sashimi and the hand rolls, they're great!

The restaurant itself isn't very nice, and acts mostly as a takeaway, but I don't mind.

I couldn't disagree more. We went on the back of the reviews and were really disappointed.

The tempura was limp and tasteless and the rolls were fridge cold. Chicken Udon was like chewing gum. The chef stood right outside the door to have a cigarette and the restaurant itself was a bit grimey. Watching the waitress 'clean' and prepare the tables for the next customer was a sight. The only good thing I can say is that the sashimi was fresh, but even so, I won't be returning.

Sushi Bar Gen was empty and had no atmosphere.

Great little sushi bar, salmon sashimi is always fresh, tempura is light, and love the green tea refil. A gem of a place.

My husband and I go to Sushi Gen quite regularly - whether it is for their sushi/sashimi/nigiri sets or bowls of noodles, we are never disappointed. The food is excellent, particularly for the price.

The service is never great, but never bad either. The staff are friendly, and the food always arrives quickly.

I have been going to and getting take out from Sushi Gen for a good four years now and I strongly say that it is one of the best sushi restaurants in London. I have been to many-a-Japanese restaurant in London, both cheap and expensive, authentic and modern, but for quality and price, Sushi Gen is the best. Don't expect any sort of dining experience-it is a small room with an open kitchen-but do expect an extensive butter-soft sashimi and sushi selection and several excellent main courses (such as the traditional teriyaki dishes).

I love this place! I nearly always get the Suski Take to take away as a "special treat" to myself (probable at least once every fourtnight!) The Akaro rolls are my favourite. The staff are always pleasant and friendly. They always greet you when you arrive and say goodbye when you leave. Great service, great food, great prices... what else can I say?
