our review
Modern Korean restaurant and bar, Bibigo, is now open in Soho. It is the first London venture for CJ Foods, Korea's biggest food company. The kitchen is headed by Kim Yong Hwan, who was previously the head chef at Roka Canary Wharf. Bibigo's menu includes traditional bibimbap, chargrilled beef bulgogi, jjigae (similar to a Western stew), and soju cocktails.

Love the old place called Ran. Bibigo now occupies this location. Quality is above average but overpriced . Menu is refreshing with modern twist to disguise the traditional names but they're all the same. The healthy part is very gimmicky. Korean food normally balances the flavour to give a very healthy meal anyway. There are better Korean Food restaurants around the corner and the atmospheres are way better at those places with more reasonable price.

I ate here with three friends in August 2012, during Bibigo's soft opening period.
All our dishes were delicious, really tasty sauces, tender meat, some new flavours (I am a Korean food novice). My highlight was the traditional bulgogi, a friend really loved the seafood crepe and the Korean steak tartare was also delicious. We even ventured into the puddings with a pancake - very nice, if not mind blowing.
The service was excellent - there were loads of waiting staff and they were all really helpful and patient, as we had a lot of questions. They also had a sommelier, which is unusual for an Asian restaurant I think (we didn't make use of him as we ordered three beers and a glass of house white wine).
Our bill came to £28 a head, with a 20% discount on the food because it was the soft opening, which was reasonable. But if you're someone who chooses restaurants based on getting a big portion of meat for your money, I'd say that Bibigo might be a disappointment. The steak tartare, for example, was a fairly small portion for £13.
The maitre d' told us that Bibigo in Great Marlborough Street is the first opening of a planned 1,000 branches in Europe. So I wonder how I will feel when there are branches of this all over the place but it's considerably more expensive than, for example, Pizza Express and Wagamama... but for now, I am keen to go back and try some other dishes. Oh, and the toilets smell so nice!
