We had the dinner tasting menu, a bit pricy but definitely worth it. We’ve been to a few high-end Indian restaurants in London and even Bukhara in New Delhi. Amaya is the winner!

I was first introduced to Amaya by a friend who lives in London. Soon it became one of my fav spots in town. Their food is so yumi, I've been to many indian resturants but none tastes as good as Amaya. I am craving Amaya's food as am typing this. It can be a bit expenssive if you are on a budget but it's worth every single penny one would spend on them.
Make sure you have reservation since it's almost fully booked. Try their "Ananas", in which is one of the best martinis.

unsatisfactory - The group i was with started the evening by the bar having a few drinks which from the start was a problem, the bar attendant didn't know what a Dry Martini was and then mistakably made 3 coca colas instead of 2.
After our drinks by the bar we where "pointed" to our table and sat down. Our main aim was to start by having a few mixed platters which all could share, the waiter couldn't recommend anything in particular other than saying that we needed to really order at least 2 dishes each, that being 14 dishes for the party of 7.
The food was bland with no taste other than being spiced with a few herbs, the service was poor, as dishes were being served the waiter past them onto our group instead pf placing them on the table which also looked very unprofessional.
I don't mind paying a price to be in a nice atmosphere on a Saturday night but even the atmosphere was dull.

This was one of the most disappointing meals I have had. The restaurant promised much with interesting decor and an inviting feel. The service was quite freidnly but pretty "no frills". We were informed when we came to order that it was an "Indian tapas" bar and we should order accordingly. Frankly the food was extremely disappointing and waaaay overpriced.
We started with two pieces of monkfish tikka. This was the best "dish" of the entire meal, all two pieces of it. Brilliantly spiced and a very interesting combination. Unfortunately it went downhill from there.
This was followed by a pretty dire paneer which was totally flavourless and extremely stodgy. The venison kebab was nothing special and the tandoori broccoli and yoghurt was frankly disappointing. My wife's aubergine dish was about a quarter of an aubergine and almost inedible. The naan was tiny and the basmati rice that we had ordered didn't appear, although they did try to charge us at the end.
The service also evaporated about halfway through the meal. Overall an extremely disappointing meal and not a restaurant I would recommend to anyone.

A truly dreadful restaurant.
I ate there recently with a friend. We had the Tasting Menu at £37.50 a head. For this we received one of the worst meals I have ever eaten.
Let's start with the ok point (I would write "good points" but nothing at Amaya managed to clear that hurdle): the naan bread was ok.
And now for the bad. The Tasting Menu involved a variety of small dishes, "Indian tapas" I suppose you could call them. These included:
Pickles - frankly I'd rather take the usual yoghurt, lime pickle and mango chutney combination at the Star of India down the road. Here we had some kind of plum chutney (didn't taste of anything), something else tasteless and two pots of dust, one yellow and one pink. Who knows what we were supposed to do with these - mix them into a paste like mustard powder?
Smoked piece of fish and smoked piece of chicken - bearable but nothing better.
Potatoes - these came decorated with yoghurt and sweet tamarind sauce as if a 99 ice cream. Imagine a plate of bad patatas bravas you might get in some cafe in Spain.
Broccoli with yoghurt - yep that's it. Just broccoli with some yoghurt on top. We ate about a third of this. The broccoli was barely cooked.
A venison kebab - a very small tube of meat with some grotesque orange paste running through the middle. It looked like a small dog's penis.
Piece of chicken in green marinade - this may have been ok, I don't know. As it was red raw I barely tasted it.
Service was friendly, but none of the Poles and other Eastern Europeans working there had a clue what any of the stuff they were serving was supposed to be.
Expect to see this place featuring in the next series of Ramsay's Kitchen Nightmares.

Very enjoyable lunch
I read some of the reviews on here and were a little hesitant but decided to go for it anyway.
We went here for lunch today (14th December 2007). Our reservation was for two people at 2pm.
The restaurant was busy, with one christmas party, but there were some empty tables.
The atmosphere was very pleasant.
We had the business lunch at £25 per head.
This was served as a series of small tasing dishes, but make not mistake it was very substantial and we were left feeling very full.
Each dish was well prepared and full of interesting flavours.
Drinks were at the level you would expect from a Knightsbridge restaurant.
Service was good without being obtrusive.

Very Disappointing!!!
Restaurant is cool, nice bar, open plan kitchen,it was full, good atmosphere.....went for a special occasion, and was very happy until the food arrived...that is ,when it did arrive!!
Firstly...its indian tapas apparently, so all the food comes at different times...first came black pepper chicken tikka, two pieces...not bad,not amazing....wait wait......two naans, munch those and waiting for something else to arrive...its just doesnt work with indian....you have to bring everything together...rice,naans,grils...just like at a normal place. I ordered lamb chops and sheekh kebabs...both were terrible!! they were just too soft!!doesnt taste grilled at all!
I get the feeling this place is for people who like to drink and enjoy the style of the place more than the food. I commiserated with the manager on my way out...nice guy in fact, but hey wasnt my cup of tea......Ciao - Hungry Bear

I think this place use to be much better when that Sikh guy use to be the manager. he is now shifted to one of the sister concern restaurant but that place is dead too.
Am sure amaya will again regain its postion which has been taken by places like Moti Mahal in holborn or other up comming restaurants. They just need to work a little be harder on the service. But for a person who is visiting first time this is a nice place.

We dined there last Friday and were highly disappointed due to the staff's extremely unprofessional manner. We were given a round table for 5 people in the corner, but whenever they were passing by, the waiters would just push our shoulder or chair without any apologies as if they were on a packed rush hour train and don't care as long as they can make their way through!
I couldn't help but noticing waiters busy chatting around among themselves and didn't have enough time to pay attention to their customers! Moreover, the food wasn't that great neither and definitely overpriced. What a hype!
