our review
New charcuterie and pizza bar, Lardo, is now open near London Fields. Locals can pop in for British cured meats, a concise wine list, and wood-fired pizzas cooked in their disco ball pizza oven. The head chef is Damian Currie, who previously worked at Zucca and St John Bread & Wine.

what the critics say
Thursday, September 20, 2012 - Bright, cleanly astringent olives and fine-sliced, buttery chilli coppa kept us going through our bitter lemon cocktails (gin, lime, mint, sugar, bitters, £4.50, new favourite thing)...Fried Arancini rice balls had a nice kick of heat from soft N’duja sausage in the centre but the mozzarella mixed with it wasn’t quite melted. Another minute’s cooking, perhaps. Broad beans with Pecorino came with zingy mint and lemon and, I think, dandelion leaves, which added a nice bitter undertone. I’d say this was the best-executed dish we had if it weren’t for the pizza.
Wednesday, August 08, 2012 - We chomp our way through a fat ball of burrata, its elasticky mozzarella skin tumescent with fresh creaminess; astonishingly vibrant broad beans and shoots in a dressing piquant with mint and pecorino; and arancini, fried rice balls sticky with mozzarella and flecked with pungent n'duja sausage. We try an excellent slow-cooked rabbit stew with a soothing, vegetal braise of peas and lettuce...That blingy oven is pressed into excellent service: focaccia, open-crumbed, oily and fragrant with herbs; pizzas, their crusts airy, the bases thin, topped with imaginative ingredients: truffle-shaped, spicy Belper Knolle cheese and their own-made, gorgeous, black anise pepperoni.
Lardo
Loved Lardo. Squid and black ink and onions was a particularly delicious. Really good and interesting wine list, too.
I had to get the staff to explain the menu to me as I wasn't completely familiar with all of the different types of ham on there. But it was worth doing and our waiter was pretty patient (despite being super busy).
Pizza, which is what it bills as its speciality, was good, but doesn't quite match the likes of specialists like Pizza Pilgrims etc...
Bill was a little more than anticipated.
Book early, it filled up very quickly!
