I was lucky enough to be invited to El Gaucho for a firm 'do' and studied the menu on the internet. it was very impressive!
When we arrived we were told we were having the set menu. This consisted of three choices for each course - no vegetarian option showing - When enquires were made I was given one option Butternut squash risotto.
So for the pricely sum of £38.00 I feasted on Tomato soup, which was ladened with olive oil and far to salty, a Plate of chips and pancakes with ice cream!
The staff were very slow, the food took ages to come to the table, although the wine arrived swiftly. They were not very accomodating for vegetarians (Iknow this is a steak restaurant, but not everybody eats meat these days). As a special treat I ordered a brandy coffe, which I watched getting cold on the bar whilst the staff looked on.
Sorry cannot highly recommend this restaurant

Went there with friends a few weeks ago. There were 7 of us and we were one of the first tables to sit down. Our attempts to get service were met with "just a minute". 45 minutes later we managed to order some drinks. We should have left at this point. But no, it was my friend's birthday and she didn't want to leave. 30 minutes after that we finally managed to order food. Another 45 minutes and the food arrived, and credit where credit's due, it wasn't bad. Certainly didn't justify the price but not bad. Not even when we asked for the bill were they quick. One place I can guarantee I won't be going again.

I have been to El Gaucho twice and both times the food has been excellent and the atmosphere in the basement restaurant has been great. I must, however, say that whereas the service was great the first time, it was somewhat lacking second time and it does not leave you with a great end to the dinner when you have two people standing over you in order to get you out of the restaurant as soon as possible so there will be room for other guests... But all in all, def. worth a visit!

I went to El Gaucho for dinner last Saturday .
Nice little restaurant, frames of Eva Peron,Alberto Olmedo (old famous comedian),Carlos Monzon (famous boxer),Maradona and Che Guevara (don 't know what was that frame doing there) all around the wall.Wood tables and chairs. It gives the feeling of being in rancho in the campo (country side) Very argentenian.
I had Bife de Lomo con papas fritas y ensalada (Sirloin steak with chips and salad) Massive plate.First it comes the steak and the chips on the same plate , then they bring u the salad on a separate small plate (the chips and salad where included in this £22 overprised dish which is worth in the end),but still expensive) The meat was lovely ,i ordered it a punto (medium) ,it just melt in my mouth. For a moment a i thought i was in restaurant in San Telmo or something .
After that ,there was no room for dessert at all.
There was just one thing i didn't like which was the Bruschetta, olives, sauce and bread "courtesy" they gave me which i had to pay for in the end, which was something they didn't let me know and i found out when i asked for the bill
It isn't about the money ,it's about that they have to let u know in advance as a customer you are that they are going to charge you for it ,it;s up to you in the end if you want it or not.Apart from that the service was good though.
By the way none of the staff were argentenian , apart from the mananger. That was a bit of a surprise as u expect to be served for argentenian people .

Nice decor and atmosphere. Service very good and the steaks were excellent. However it is on the pricey side and when you order a steak that is all you get - not even a piece of parsley. Chips are £2 extra and green beans a whopping £4.50 (February 07) Some of the bread was on the stale side. The deserts were nice although expensive at around £7

Nice place, but they really like to steal the customers money with the ever changing prices in the menu, be aware....

Best steak in London! You will not get better meat unless you go to Argentina yourself and hunt it!
If you like meat you must try this. I recommend the Churrasco. Enjoy!
