our review

Seafood restaurant Simply Fish is now open on Inverness Street in Camden. The head chef is Sherif Hassan, who previously worked at Kensington Place, Sketch, and the Savoy Hotel. Their fish and seafood is delivered daily from Looe, Cornwall, and diners can choose how some of it is cooked and which sauces are used. The menu also includes Mediterranean fish stew, paella, Cornish crab with garlic butter, and burgers and steak for the carnivores.

TimeOut - 3/5

Monday, October 01, 2012 - On our visit, which admittedly was soon after opening (some wiring and fire alarm was getting a spot of last-minute testing), the kitchen was a little disappointing. Three small pieces of tempura-battered cod seemed like a measly portion for £12.50, but the fresh cut chips were very respectable. Spiced sea bass had been pan-fried well, but served in a bowl with fried aubergine, tomato sauce and steamed rice, the whole dish was a rather mushy combination. The location though, about two minutes' walk from Camden tube station, might secure it some repeat customers.

Me and my wife was passing by the street and decided to pop-in into the restaurant.

Food was simply amazing! The fish stew was the best stew I ever had in my life.

Service was fabulous. Manager and young lady who are working there created really good atmosphere.

Simply awful!

When my mother said she had spotted a new local fish restaurant we went on a family outing. The seafood platter sounded good so we ordered the medium size as we were assured this would be plenty as a starter for four. What a disappointment… We expressed our surprise as surely this was the small platter – but alas it was indeed the medium. The platter comprised, a tiny bowl of mussels which was fine but the four prawns and ‘scampi’ (mostly crust) and a few unseasoned battered morsels of squid bulked up with salad leafs, chilli and onions minus a dipping sauce were rather paltry for the princely sum of £25!

Ordering in the first place had been somewhat tricky as the waitress was clearly new and had to consult other staff for every single question. Sometime after placing our order, we were informed that there was only one portion of hand cut chips left so everyone else would have to have the frozen fries if they wanted ‘chips’! What? No chips in a fish and chip restaurant!!!

When the dishes did arrive and I tried to tell the waitress that the salmon dish I was sharing with my daughter (no child portions of salmon) was supposed to come with cooked veg rather than salad, the manager started shouting that this was just too much and that he had had enough. Astonished at this tirade of abuse, we stood up and walked out! I have rarely experienced such a wanton disregard for the customer in a lifetime of dining both here and abroad.

Simply Fish is a great concept but the restaurant has serious management, staffing and pricing issues. We are frequent diners and this could have become one of our regular haunts but they just haven’t got it right. What a shame.

We ended up around the corner at Rossopomodoro where we received a warm welcome and dined on pizzas served with grace and professionalism.

Simply the best! Went to Simply Fish last saturday. We were a party of 4 that had travelled up from Oxford for a night out at the Jazz Cafe. Hospitality was excellent. Between us we had Sea Bream, Sea Bass and Halibut. All were beautifully cooked and presented. Portions ample. Topped off with delicious deserts. Would definitely recommend to anyone. We will be coming back again.

Don't be put off by the narrow entrance - this place is cosy, warm and atmospheric inside with a great and extensive menu, and friendly staff. A unique experience where you can choose what fish you would like, how you want it cooked and what sauce and sides. Then other delicious options including the mussels, which I had. The best mussels ever in a divine sauce and no closed mussels - really flavoursome. We also shared the sizzling prawns and salt squid as starters- this place is great for sharing. Also a lovely bar down the middle with a great choice of alcohol and staff on hand to recommend which wine will go with your fish dish. For non-fish lovers there is also a steak or a burger and child size portions. We didn't have room for dessert but were thoroughly satisfied with a sizeable starter and main. Would recommend to all my friends. Was great to go as a couple but would be equally good to go with a group of friends.

Disgusting!!The worst EVER!! We have just had some take away from simply fish. We decided to have take away as we specifically wanted pieces of fish, calamari and prawns. I never write reviews but this was so exceptionally bad that I felt like i want to share our experience. There were 2 small pieces of fish in a box, the rest of the box filled with McDonald type of chips. Prawns - same 5 pieces in a medium size box, the rest was chips. Calamari - the worst i ve ever had! it was read crumbs only, no calamari at all, plus over half of the box mixed with chips with some green stuff (like old coriander). I would NEVER EVER go there again. All overpriced !!! £15 for all of this!!!! It was worse then Asda value! Absolutely unacceptable!!!

what a catch ( sorry couldn't resist the Pun)

I live locally and have thankfully found Fish Heaven

The restaurant looks great and very user friendly and the staff were really helpful

I had Fish and Chips to die for and my friends waxed lyrical about the fish stew and paella which was fresh and tasty

cannot recommend enough

Went to camden to meet friend for dinner and stumbled upon this treasure, being a seafood lover as soon as I saw the sign, new restaurant and the menu I was sold. The mussells were fantastic, the wine was a perfect accompanyment and the baked fish was excellent. Its great for us health concious ladies we can choose how you would like your fish cooked and the accompanyments. The meal was fantastic I would recommend to all, service was good and the atmospher is chilled and relaxing. We will be back soon
