I concur with the previous reviewer. I've just moved to the area and think this restaurant is great, especially the value deals on Sundays and Mondays. Fantastic food, reasonable prices and friendly service. Definitely recommended.

This is truly a hidden gem in Forest Hill, and one of the best curry restaurants in London for tasty, authentic and fresh dishes. Its position isn't great, located behind the station on Perry Vale in an area where the turnover for shops and restaurants seems to be high. However, since moving to Forest Hill a year ago, this has become one of our favourite restaurants, offering more unusual Bangladeshi dishes as well as traditional Indian favourites such as chicken tikka masala. The staff are always polite, friendly and helpful, the prices are very reasonable, particularly the Sunday and Monday deal for under £10, and the food, what can I say? My favourite dishes would be the lamb lau which offers tender, juicy lamb, falling off the bone and the makhini chicken which is just mouthwatering! Speaking as someone who actually got a bit tired of the sameness of curry restaurants after studying at Birmingham University (balti central), I find the dishes at Kafe La exceptionally different and delicious compared to the usual fare. The quality of the ingredients is second to none.

This place is fabulous. We have been going for years and our friends for even longer. Its great value for money - especially the meal deal they have on some nights. The staff are the friendliest and most courteous you'll find. The food is freshly made and carefully presented. The only reason its not always that busy is that its a little tucked away on Perry Vale. But the kitchen's turn over is very high as so many people use it as a take away staple - so you get all the benefits of punctilious service and lots of space and quiet, as well as a healthily-busy kitchen.
You'll fall in love with the quaint charm of this place.

I thought that the restaurant was uninviting and poor in comparrison to similar restaurants in the area.
the food was rather dry and tastless and the atmosphere reminded me of a recent familly funeral.
I would not recommend this palce to a friend!

Very, very good. Well priced; good, fresh food, much more complex than the average; good wine; attentive service; welcoming atmosphere... everything you expect from a restaurant.

I love Kafe La! We moved to Forest Hill about 2 years ago and this is the best food ever!
We always order a takeaway at least once a week and the deliveryman is always kind and lovely. Plus if you collect your takeaway you receive a 20% discount.
Eating in the restaurant is also great, sometimes it can be really busy and other times (especially during the week) rather quiet, but the food never let’s you down and it's all about the food!
I have lived in London for over 30 years and this is the best local I've ever had and the best Bangladeshi cuisine.
Very authentic! Keep it going Kafe La.....
It's Friday night and I'm waiting for my Kafe La delivery as we speak.

Excellent restaurant, great food and relaxed atmosphere. My girlfriend and me go often and always enjoy it. Different menu from the average but always decent portions. The curried leg of lamb is really tasty. Waiters sometimes seem more bothered with dressing the tables than serving but most of the time are friendly and helpful.

We have eaten at Kafe La a number of times and the food has always been delicious. Attentive waiters, spotless table linen and properly served drinks (real coke with ice and lemon, wine served at the right temperature, etc). Why it is not more busy, we cannot fathom. The take-away is top quality too.

What can I say, for the money (£34, inclusive of a tip, although this was on a deal) this is the best meal I have had out, ever!
If this restaurant was in the centre of town you would pay 8 to 10 pounds for their starters and 15 to 20 for their main courses. I would happily pay these prices as well.
An absolute gem which we will be going backk to again and again; and they deliver.
