Salieri Restaurant

Salieri's, an extremely pleasant atmosphere, always a great ''buzz'' of conversation, just like the interval of a theatre, when the play has been good. The food is excellent and well presented by pleasant staff and whenever I,m in London I always go with a guest. It has been a pleasure to eat there many many times and a trip to London without it, is an anticlimax. In fact the writer is going there this weekend for a celebration weekend in London. Best Wishes and happy to be quoted.

Awful experience. From ordering to the food arriving took 45 minutes and our waiter was surly and rude. The food was dreadful - burnt mange tout, mashed potato with a crust from sitting so long under a hot plate, and all of it arrived at different times. We refused to pay the service charge after the rudeness and poor quality and the waiters followed us out of the restaurant to ask for the tip! In my opinion this is one of the worst restaurants in London.

We had lunch here on saturday sitting outside in the September sunshine. The food was superb value and the service excellent. We had two courses and a lovely bottle of wine for £30....not forgetting the charm of the smiling waiters.
I would love to have lunch there every Saturday, but a weekly Glasgow to London flight would bump up the cost!

Yes, the decor is eccentric but fun, and it could be smarter, but my husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our lunch here today, which was excellent value at £30 for two with beer and great coffee. The nice thing is that, for lunch at least, they don't charge for cover and bring you bread rolls, a dip, crudites and olives all included in the price. We asked for water and they kindly brought large glasses of iced water, with a smile.
The service was very nice and friendly; the 'waiter with the laugh' was charming. I overheard him telling a couple that he'd worked there mostly since 1968. He's a great asset to the place. It was late lunchtime, though and the staff/customer ratio was very high, so we had as much attention as we wanted.
Ok, so it might be a bit dated in places but the atmosphere is that of a family- owned restaurant rather than the impersonality of so many places in Central London. The food was good, fresh and wholesome, though as experienced adults we made informed choices from the menu; I had the antipasto plate which was good and fresh rather than the fish roulade which probably wouldn't have lived up to its description at that price. Using common sense when ordering makes a difference! We would go back for lunch, it's such good value. I'd prefer more refined cuisine for dinner, but that's my choice.

I have always doubted the value of general reviews of restaurants posted on websites and never more than now. How anyone could possibly review this grubby restaurant in a positive light is beyond me. I felt I was in a time warp, could food this dreary still be served. The decor obviously not to everyones taste could do with a makeover. The bench seats were stained and the cutlery and glassware dull. Vegetables were appalling and tasted as if they had been reheated several times. Congealed sauces alluded to pre made up plates of food reheated in the microwave. Even good restaurants can have a bad day but no professional kitchen could allow soggy pastry, tired salads, marked dry crudite and poor quality vegetables to be put before their customers. I dine frequently in many restaurants around Covent Garden but consider this one of the worst available. A London tourist trap doing well only by virtue of it's location.

We have enjoyed several meals at Salieri over the years. We had my birthday dinner there last January and again this year with family and friends. The service was excellent and the food lovely. A very attractively decorated Restaurant, love the painted seats and matching waistcoats. My only problem is that I wish they would make it NO SMOKING. It's just not nice to eat lovely food with fag smoke wafting across your table. Apart from that we love Salieri and the prices are very reasonable for London. We paid about £96 for 4 of us this January and we had 2 courses each but no wine, just drinks with meal. Top marks and highly recommend, make it non smoking and it would be brilliant!
