The Prince

The most fantastic venue for our wedding. Bright, airy, wonderful atmosphere downstairs during the day, then a lovely little garden, perfect pavement side sitting out and a great fun party room upstairs. Nothing was too much trouble. We left the menu pretty much up to Phil and his advice was spot on - how much to serve, when, how, what wines to choose, the best organic sparkly rose you could find (certainly reduced hangover in my opinion!). But its not just that he pulled the stops out for a special occasion - The Prince is also our local and is consistently brilliant.

I've given this pub a good few chances now, but have come to the conclusion that it is as I first thought, a stuffy, uptight, expensive and unfriendly pub. Nip around the corner and go to the Londesborough or the Shakespeare instead.

I MOVED TO THE AREA ABOUT 4 MONTHS AGO. I HAVE DONE THE ROUNDS OF ALL THE LOCAL PUBS AND THE PRINCE IS BY FAR MY FAVOURITE. GREAT FOOD, GREAT WELL KEPT ALE, TABLE SERVICE AND A NICE RELAXED ATMOSPHER. WHAT MORE DO YOU NEED FROM A LOCAL

Nice establishment, friendly staff and good atmosphere. Whenever I have family or friends over, this is where I bring them. The food is always spot on, lamb shank still stands as a firm favourite.

regulars at the Prince for many years... but and hate to say this - the food is not good anymore. We had a poor, poor meal there least year (09), venturing back on the premise that it might have been just a one of. Yesterday proved otherwise, as their almost bullet proof Prince burger managed to become a stomach churner. Such a shame because the staff are nice and the dappled sunlight make it a pleasure to sit in there late afternoon.
The food, well revolting, vinegary olives when they used to serve sweet green greek things. Then the burger was adorned with greasy fries (which used to be dry and crispy). The burger: meat was OK, but a stale, pre-prepared bun, cheap cheddar cheese (fried we think, yuk), then the lashings of very spicy jalapenos (yum-yum - shame it was not advertised as a spicy burger so we could know what to expect) and the rank, bitter salad with some strange yellow paste dolloped over it as dressing).
The meal last year was uncovered by the caesar salad, which had those lettuce leaves that have obviously been bad for a day or so...
No more goes. Get a decent chef and pick your game up we say.

This is an OK place, I don't agree with the really harsh review entirely, I found the service acceptable. Whats making me not come back is the fact that the idiots seem to allow people to use iphones during the quizes (or at least their not doing anything to stop them) and it ruins the entire point. Its really sad and I certainly won't be taking part in any more. It's a shame.
