I have to reluctantly agree with the last reviewer - The Monzil, which was amazingly , consistently good for so many years - has recently shown a distinct deterioration in both the quality of food and service. The food, whilst still ok, has changed and one suspects that the cook has as well, whilst the atmosphere is less welcoming than it used to be.

I do hope it returns to form but suspect that like many good things - the old Monzil may have come to an end. Sad

This used to be the best Indian restaurant in Barnes by a mile. Recently however there has been a decline in both the quality of food and the integrity of the staff.

My most recent visits were marred by an incredibly rude, surly waiter. He is relatively new to the otherwise friendly team.

His rudeness is such that I shall not be returning the restaurant. He rushed us through our meal and at one point - clearly wishing to close the restaurant early - held his head in his hands sighing. Perhaps it would have been better simply to say it was too late for us to eat rather than allow us in only to treat us with contempt.

On a separate occasion having somewhat churlishly left some cash in the restaurant I approached the waiter who had served us the following day to ask if he or any of the other staff had retrieved my money. (I had already added a gratuity on my credit card.)

My attempts to retrieve the money were greeted with feigned ignorance.

I would have been willing to overlook the first incident concerning this nasty waiter but dishonesty is unacceptable.

I shall not return until he goes and until the loos are cleaned and renovated. Local restaurants’ reputations can be damaged very quickly so I suggest that action is taken before the residents of Barnes decide to go elsewhere for an Indian.

Yours faithfully,

A once loyal customer

I have been going to this restaurant for over 10 years and i could honestly say that this by far is the best Indian restaurant in Barnes. The decor is very traditional and reminds me of the style of restaurant you would see back in the late 80s early 90s, but the service and food is exceptional and graced with best tandoori dishes to literally crave for.

The owner has been running this restaurant with the help of his son who is so friendly and happy go luck person where he will keep you at ease and treat you how you should be treated. The other night he recommended me a dish not on the menu which he kinda calls it his special dish. This is a curry dish that has succulent lamb pieces and an authentic sauce that brings the best flavours through the dish to make it delightful. He always manages to enlighten me with different experiences and i love it.

Unlike the other restaurant 'Aroma Asia' he seems to not have any knowledge in what curries are good or not good.

The BEST restaurant in Barnes by miles and i say the staff are fantastic and the food is great. The BEST TANDOORI Dishes in barnes and i always go for the Tandoori Mix Grill and i should also say the best KING PRAWN dishes ever to be graced on a Indian Menu "King Prawn Korai".

The guys at Monzil make you feel like your at home and its a family run business where the owner and son make it so vibrant for the clients.

We've been going to the Monz since moving to London in 1981. Nothing has changed bar the sweet young lad is now the boss and grandpa, only smiles and barks at the staff. Great place to eat, always warm and welcoming. And the food, oh my god, LUSH. Been to many a curry house but always return to the monzil.

Walking in, the smell just hits you. It's the best in town.
