The Landseer

Had a very pleasant saturday night meal here - both myself and my partner adored the Tiger prawns as starter - highly recommended. I had the lamb brochette which was very tender and flavoursome, and came with a side portion of cous-cous and a nice sauce (sorry can't remember what it was specifically!). My partner had chicken breast with an orange and tarragon sauce which was also very good.
We had a nice bottle of sauvignon blanc which was reasonably priced. The service was warm and friendly, and at no point did we feel rushed...

The Landseer has changed a lot!!!
My latest visit was a nice surprise. They have apparently changed a chef and the service was pleasant. My lamb chops were absolutely fantastic and friends tuna as well. Chocolate mousse was little, but finished the meal nicely together with a bottle of Rioja. Looking forward the summer, hope they will open their terrace again..

This place is rubbish.
It is alright to drop in for a drink occassionally which I do on a Sunday (I play football in Finsbury Park) but don't expect anything more than your normal Nth London pub.
The food is poor but trades off the quality (and prices) of other decent pubs in the area - I recomend St Johns, The Pemberton, The Junction, The Swimmer or even the journey to the Marquess in Barnsbury - all markedly better than here.
I live within a mile or so and eat and drink at these pubs regularly, as do my friends and the Landseer always falls short of what it promises. Most won't bother eating there.
It is obvious to me that the first few reviews written in the short time frame in October 2006 were written by staff/ owners/interested party. I don't trust them at all. All adds to the feeling of being cheated when I hand over good money for a below average meal.

The pub looks great but the whole eating experience was awful. When we ordered I was told not to choose certain dishes as the waiter didn't think they were up to scratch (should have known then what to expect), the wine took ages to arrive without a wine bucket, then that took ages to arrive. Eventually we got our food and if wasn't great, my burger was burnt.
So we won't be eating there again, we will go in for a drink becasue its a great pub in an area with little to offer.
Staff tried their best and were friendly

Terrible terrible food. It's a real pity because the pub itself is lovely, with comfy leather sofas, a nice bar, very light and good atmosphere. But basically, just go for drinks because the food is consistently awful and completely overpriced. I took a friend and was so embarrassed afterwards - he had a steak and kidney "pie" which was basically a bowl of brown mush that looked like something you got for school dinners, with the tiniest (TINY) square of pastry on the top. No veg. No side. He couldn't even finish it, it was so digusting, and it wasn't even cheap.

I was introduced to the Landseer last year, I thought it was great and it seemed to tick all the boxes. However I had only really had drinks and bar snacks, which seemed fine at the time. I had always wanted to try out the food and tonight I did just that. How dissapointing...I don't know where to start. On paper the food looked great and judging by what was being brought out from the kitchen I was in for a good meal. Presentation and portion size wasn't the problem. The food just tasted of nothing! The only way I could identify what I was eating was by the texture of the ingredients. There was just no taste or seasoning. I don't know where they are getting their produce from but due to the non existent taste and smell it must have been cheap. Even thought the menu states that they use mainly organic and free range ingredients. Really baffled about the food, it was like having a bad cold where everything just tastes bland.
It's a shame as the location, building etc is pleasant. Not enough to intice me back anytime soon. Not even for the pretty decent wine list.

This is one of the worst rip-offs i have endured in London.
Do not go - the food is barely passable....rubbery calamari, tiny halibut and a sickening shop bought chocolate torte all for £27 - it's a disgrace. The service was cursory and more set on having a laugh probably at us mugs who paid for such rubbish.
I implore you - do not go here so that it will be sold and someone else can try to rebuild its once-good reputation

I must report that today's experience (8/1/07) at the landseer was absolutely terrible. We have a favorable opinion of the pub and its ownership and we're not local-- it takes us 10 minutes by car to get there. So having gone out of our way, we were disheartened to see a dumbed down sunday menu (three roasts or eggs). The roast beef wasn't topside roast, the potatoes were burnt, the gravy prefab, and the `yorkshire pudding' something that looked like squashed cornbread and tasted like nothing.
We ordered coffee and planned to complain about the food at that time but after waiting 20 minutes as our 1 year old grew ever more restless, we paid at the bar and left.
To be honest, over two years of comments there are complaints about inconsistent service and food quality so these problems aren't new. If I lived across the street I'd go for a glass of wine regularly, but they won't draw from outside the neighbourhood at this level of quality and service -- at least on Sunday.

Working around the area, I thought to try a local place for dinner.
Having heard on the grapevine about The Landseer, I thought it would be a good place to try.
I was instantly very pleasantly surprised.
Walking in, you are transported from the cold street into a warm and friendly environment.
After a good pre-dinner pint of ale dispensed from what are clearly very well maintained lines, I sat down in the restaurant area and was immediately greeted by friendly, professional staff.
First course was a chowder, followed by a Magret de Canard cooked to perfection.
The food was so tasty that I had to indulge in a final course of home made French style Chocolate Pudding with liquid centre.
It was absolutley delightful!
Overall, I must say that The Landseer is a veritable Gem located on an unassuming street.
If you are in the area and feel peckish, or just need somewhere to recharge the batteries, I must recommend The Landseer as the perfect place to go.
