Lamoon

Well I went for the second time to this restaurant last night and it failed to disappoint again. The crispy duck is among the best I have tasted (x2) and the lemon drizzle prawns and soft shell crab were out of this world. I would be tempted to say this restauarant is crap for selfish reasons......I wouldn't want it to be discovered. It is simply the best Chinese food I have had outside of China (I have been). Well worth a detour!

As the other reviews have rightly pointed out, once you visit Lamoon you will have great difficulty stopping yourself from going back religiously. It seems as though their menu contains enough variation that there's a "favourite dish" for everyone.

They closed for refurbishment last year, and although the previous decor was absolutely fine, the restaurant has been nicely spruced up. I can also attest to the fact that the people working there are nothing but polite, friendly, and efficient, even during the busiest of lunch rushes! The resident baby (who is growing up and far less of a baby now) is also incredibly sweet and constantly smiling, which is never a bad thing.

Their weekday (?) lunchtime deal - 2 courses from the set menu for £5.95 - is an absolute bargain, as there's always more than enough food to satisfy the best of hungers.

Excellent food, good service, friendly staff and good value for money. The prawns in garlic sauce were amazing. I'm not normally a great fan of Chinese restaurants but in this case the flavours were distinct and clean. Definitely worth a visit.

To say Lamoon isn't child friendly simply isn't true. The fact that the restaurant has a resident child, often present in the restaurant should go to show they are child friendly. They would be hypocrites otherwise. I have taken my baby there twice and had no problem.

I have lived locally for 6 years and stumbled across it 1 day. not being a fan of Chinese restaurants i didn't expect much, but after that first experience there I keep going back. Whenever I get a chance to introduce someone new to the restaurant i do, and myself and my partner regularly get Friday night takeaway from there.

The atmosphere is nice, you can tell it is a family owned and run restaurant, I have always had brilliant service with a smile (which might come as a surprise to some as the staff are quite young). I can often tell when I am in there that other customers are local regulars like myself. This is the sign of a good restaurant.

Food is great but that goes without saying cos I dont go back just for the service and the atmosphere.

The only reason I am writing this review is because it is Good Friday and I'm checking (REALLY hoping) they are open tonight for a takeaway! :-)

(PS - I gave value for money 7 out of 10 which was the lowest score because you cant expect to pay buttons for food this great. You get what you pay for, and the price definitely reflects the quality...which i suppose does make it good value for money)

This is the best Chinese restaurant I have ever been to. Fantastic fresh food, really well prepared and a lovely friendly atmosphere. Amazing value for money. I recommend the crispy chilli chicken or the chilli pork steaks. I went with a group of friends for a slap up meal with lots of booze and it was £25 a head! Brilliant. I'm lucky to live locally so it's my first choice for take away.

For the past 4 weeks, I have going to this restaurant religiously every Tuesdays and Wednesdays. I just cannot get enough of it... Mind you I am 3 months pregnant, it could just be the baby....

what a find this place is great, their mixed starters is fantastic, friendly, swift and tasty food, no MSG buzz either, reasonably priced and should be busy all the time,!
