Very mediocre food. Most of us (8 in all) had fillet steak or other type and all were overcooked. If you ordered rare you got medium, if you ordered medium you got medium-well.
Service is below-average. Wait staff constantly hovering and interrupting our meal; continually refilling our wine glasses...What a boorish practice in order to inflate a bill.
Wait staff not terribly friendly. Atmosphere also mediocre. The bread is nice.

We have eaten at the Kew Grill a couple of times and enjoyed our meals, but will not eat there again. We booked a table for seven people (as a birthday treat) and were asked to arrive early, which we did. We were seated at two small circular tables pushed together, which was not comfortable, particularly for the person squeezed in betwen the two tables. The starters were Ok and the steaks were OK, but nothing special, just average. The confit of duck was awful, tough, stringy and dried out, as if had been left over from lunchtime. The turbot was disappoiting with limp skin. However, the biggest disappointment was the 'Special' the roast pork, it was tough and chewy, with no stuffing and the crackling didn't crackle. I would certainly not recommend the Kew Grill to anyone again.

I have been to the Kew Grill on a number of occasions since it opened mainly on lunchtimes particularly on Sundays and have been very impressed by the food and the service. However two nights ago having booked far in advance we went for a celebratory birthday dinner and were very disappointed. The white wine arrived not chilled and presented in a plastic cooler and after complaint replaced by a bucket with ice which means that only half way through the bottle do you get the right temperature. We ordered gazpachio and squid for starters and fish pie and fish cakes for main along with creamed spinach and frittes as side orders. The squid was on the cusp of chewy but what was annoying the fish cakes arrived on a bed of creamed spinach making our side order redundant. The fish cakes were mainly potato and fish pie was dry. Sorry and I don't normally do restaurant reviews - in fact this is the first - but where previously I have recommended this restaurant, I am now warning people off.

I've been to Kew Grill a couple of times now; my girlfriend found it in a restaurant guide last year. We loved it. Good service, friendly atmosphere and a great food.
I'm a huge fan of beef and consider myself a bit of a steak expert. I'd have to say the fillet and sirloin cuts we had there where the best I've had in the UK.
We've recommended it to all our friends and will be visiting again shortly.

Well I am surprised to have to add my comments to a review for my night out at the Kew grill. ( 6.45pm sat nite sitting)Have always liked how AWT comes across on television and was looking forward to my meal out that my wife had arranged for my birthday. I liked the atmosphere in the restaurant and our waiteress was very good and helpful.( the only reason we paid the 12.5% service charge)Overall I found the food of tastey standards and portions i expected. However when I found a large, old, burnt, parsnip in my side order of veg I felt it necessary to complain. Taking it as a simple mistake I showed the maitre de, and requested if he'd ask the chef to eat it, and i'd give him a £ if he did. I carried on with my meal but 20 minutes later I had to ask the maitre de if the chef ate it. And this is where I had a standard reply ' the chef sends his apologies' .......... I accept that the food is of a basic wholesome fare, but I dont expect to pay the prices I do, to have something put on my plate that is inedible. Which I personally thought I took very well, but then to have no response of any kind from either the chef or waiters regards this complaint, I felt I had to post this review

I booked to go to this restaurant with one of my friends based upon her recommendation, however I have to say that after reading the reviews I was a little worried about this. However we had a very pleasant evening.
The service was good, we were not hasseled at all but equally the waiter wqas there whenever we neede him. The food was very good, I had Steal Diane and my friend had the Sea Bass.
The resturant was full but didn't feel to packed there was just a pleasant buzzy atmosphere.

I live and work nearby to Kew Grill. the first time i went was when i was taking the staff out for lunch.
We had a very long wait (about 60 mins) between ordering and recieving.
The staff lacked enthusiasm, and were annoyed with the slightest question deviating from standard ordering from the menu.
Having waited so long in a half empty restaurant, we were expecting a memorable meal. But it was memorable for the wrong reasons. The lamb i had was not what i would expect to get at these prices, and the rest of my party were fed up with the wait.
The second time i went the place was empty and i was beggining to realise why. in a reasonbly small and intimate restaurant, staff rapport is very important, this was sadly lacking. on this occasion i asked for ribeye steak - medium. It was raw.
Also, i have never known staff being so physical when removing the cutlery, i was in conversation with my companion and pushed aside.

I've been here quite a few times over the past few years, as I live nearby, and I've found the service and food deteroriating each time.
Last time I went will definitely be the last time I go.
I ordered a medium-rare rib-eye steak and got what tasted and looked like a well-done minute steak. Given the prices they charge, they are just taking the mick.

Having enjoyed a great meal a month ago at the Barnes Grill,my wife and i were looking foward to a similar experience last night at the Kew Grill.
Oh how let down we were !
This time both our steaks, fillet and ribeye, were distinctly average at best.. Lumpy mashed potatoes and overcooked chips.
Always easy to make excuses for a busy saturday night but to pay top money for a poor quality meal is not on
