Fino's Wine Cellar (Mount St)
your comments review this restaurant and win a bottle of champagne
Unfortunately everyone seems to be getting confused. This is not Fino's the Spanish restaurant. It is an old fashioned Mayfair wine bar, run by the same Italians that also run the excellent Delfino's pizza place upstairs, and the Serafino restaurant (less good) across the road.
It's diagonally opposite the Connaught, and you access the basement bar by a small door on the left of the pizza restaurant.
Fino's does some simple and very well priced Italian staples, eg. spaghetti bolognese. It quite literally used to be the wine cellars, so in addition to the main bar, there are tables in small cubby holes that used to hold wine barrels.
It's a good place to meet someone for a drink before going on to dinner, or to meet someone for a drink that turns into the need for some food - not a destination venue, but I really like the old-school atmosphere (patterned carpet) and good value.
