I visited this pub on Saturday 17th March 2012 and was thoroughly impressed. The service was fantastic, set menu extensive, and food delicious.
The prices were about right, and the pint I ordered (Doom Bar) was well kept.
This old pub has plenty of charm, plenty of car parking, and did I mention the great service?
NB the owner says he took over the Green Dragon in November 2011, so bear this in mind when reading other (older) reviews.
I would happily recommend this pub/restaurant.

Quite clearly the worst experience I've ever had the misfortune to experience in any restaurant/Pub in my life.
My friends and I went for a birthday pub lunch last Sunday, and I'm still in shock at the way we were treated. Firstly they lost our reservation twice and didn't apologise but that's just the tip of the iceberg. I can forgive that when it came to light that after ordering the food, you shouldn't expect to see it for another 1h and 15 mins. Again I could almost accept that when I was to find out what was to come. After complaining to (apparantly the owner, scary!!) Amanda she said I should sit down so it doesn't get cold. This is the tip of the iceberg because after the long wait I get a fishpie that you could eat in three mouthfalls and my wife ordered roasted vegetables which came in this bit of sad looking sorry ciabatta and was cold. After explaining to the owner that I'd be paying only for the fish pie as I'd eaten it and my wife coildn't face eating hers I'd only be paying for mine, she accused me of being a thief. Then she said I was abusing her staff, hard to accept considering she was the only member of staff I'd spoken to. I'd never been spoken to like that anywhere in my life. She asked me to never come back, and I swiftly replied and raised my voice and said "do you really think I'd come back to this place?"
So apart from the misbookings, long wait and cold food, and abuse I can highly recommend this place.

We held a wake at The Green Dragon this week and would like to thank Amanda and her team for handling it with the utmost kindness and professionalism. We were accomodated in the lovely conservatory area and our guests were very complimentary of both the food and service. Buffet style food can be so unappetising but this was all excellent - hot, tasty and in generous portions. It was a tough day for all of us but knowing that this was all handled with such care and attention meant we could relax and tend to our guests. Thank you.

I visited the Green Dragon last night, 26/03/10, with my wife and son, and having read some good reviews expected a real treat., it turned out to be a bit hit and miss.
On arrival, we waited to be seated, but then gave up and sorted ourselves out on a table for four, only to be moved to a different table for four as the first was allegedly for six. A group of four subsequently sat there. Also people from the bar, not dining were sitting at restaurant tables, which detracted a little from the ambience, and disapointingly the log fire was not lit despite it being quite cold in the restaurant.
Starters - I ordered pork belly in tempura batter on an asian salad. The batter turned out to be standard batter, not crisp and light, and I don't know what qualified as asian in the salad. My wife had 'chicken liver parfait' (pate) with a red onion jam. The pate was ok, but the 'red onion jam' was grey, watery and tasteless. My son had the gnocchi and thought it was good.
Mains - Only I was disapointed with the main, my wife and son enjoyed theirs, a steak and chicken stuffed with mozzerella respectively. My 'fillet of neck of lamb stuffed with prunes and kidney' was a disaster and had to be sent back. The lamb was four small pieces of tough meat, I couldn't cut, not served stuffed, the 'kidney' tasted like chicken liver, and the prunes were dates. This dish was so bad it was taken off the menu for the night.
We were told there was a new chef, and also that the main chef was not there (on a friday night?!?), not really much of an excuse in my opinion.

I visited the green dragon with my husband and children last weekend, and i must say what a lovely meal it was. We went on a Sunday afternoon where traditional roasts were served as well as a wide choice of alternatives.
It was very busy and I could see the waitresses were put under slight pressure with the high demands; however the service was great as the waitresses were continuously smiling and polite.
The food was lovely and they offer a great children’s menu.
Prices were reasonable, side dishes were slightly overpriced for the size that they are. Other than that it was great.
I certainly will be re-visiting.

Great pub and restaurant!
Really cosy and relaxed atmosphere, absolutely superb quality food at a very reasonable price! The best beef I have ever tasted, its free range and 28 day Hung (NOT 28 day “matured” AKA left in a plastic container in its own blood – yes, that’s what “28 day matured” means!) The service is always very helpful and polite. Large wine list with exclusive wines from around the world that you won’t find in the local supermarket. Majority of wines sold by the glass and again at very reasonable prices.
Give this place a go and you won’t be disappointed!

I visited the Green Dragon on Saturday 13th June 2009. Unfortunately there were not many people there between 8pm and 10pm so it was slightly lacking in atmosphere. The food is very so so and does not taste particularly delicious. The prices suggest it should be better. Asparagus was overcooked. Fish was overcooked to the point of being inedible. I feel the chef and owner should get together and devise a simpler menu. This is an English country pub come restaurant that should stick to fresh beautiful produce cooked to perfection. Great meat , fish and wonderful vegetables served more simply. To have items unavailable on the menu at 8pm on a Saturday night is not sensible. It just says we sold out at lunchtime and have not stocked our larders! The continental cheese board was overloaded with dull cheese! What about our wonderful British cheeses? No fresh berries on the pudding menu in the middle of June! Astounding! This place could be a little gem. I am sure with a tweak here and there it may surprise us all.
