Having read reviews about the 'Thai on the river' restaurant, I was worried about going there. However it was my sister's birthday and she'd heard that it was a good place to go, so we went. The first thing to say is don't let the outside put you off. Inside, the atmosphere and views (especially at night) are brilliant. The staff were slow to begin with but were always extremely pleasant, and became increasingly attentive as the evening went on. The traditional thai food was delicious from start to finish. They even brought out a pudding with a candle in it and sang happy birthday to my sister as it was her birthday! Also, we got 25% off, having booked on line, which made the meal extermely good value! I would definitely go again!

Everything is just over priced. Even with a special 50% off deal, your bill will not be cheap as you expect it would be. Atmosphere is nice and the service is OK but the food is slightly under average; tastes OK but not cooked to perfection i.e.too soft noodles etc... I don't think I will go back there.

Food was nice but small. Service incredibly slow - we had to ask for everything as no one came to take orders etc, and we gave them plenty of time. Also, in the area we were seated in, it was freezing!

OVERPRICED, NOT QUITE AVERAGE THAI FOOD. Don't bother unless you have deep pockets and under-developed taste buds.

I cannot believe the comments written about this place. It was one of the most memorable experiences you could have. The service was superb, the food was a masterpiece, and the atmosphere was perfect. If you go in a group of 2 or 3, then i definately recommending to sit in one of the two beds.(request the bed away from the entrance) Their Salmon in oyster sauce has made me drive 50 miles, to take others, just to taste it. Defintely recommended, and i will be making the long drive back their very soon. A++

Heard a lot about Thai on the River and was looking forward to the evening meal. I had booked 50% off the total food bill with toptable and thought it would be a great deal!

Restaurant's location is great - right on the river and the decor is very elegant. Drinks are amazing espeically the Singapore Sling.

Starters was good, however, the mains are a little too mild in taste and were not to our liking. We prefer stronger flavours, but I think this restaurant caters for the milder pallet.

Deserts were scrumptuous!

My major criticism would be the waitresses and the service. I noticed a large group who didn't get all their food together and had no option but to complain, justfully so. The waitresses are a bit 'spaced out' however, very friendly when you get their attention.

When the bill came, I was very surprised that deserts were not part of the 50% discount as they were on a separate menu - bill was quite expensive in the end even with the discount.

Overall, quite nice - great place to take guests from out of town - but not a regular jaunt.

We went to Thai on the River@ Battersea on Saturday 20th January 2007. We were looking forward to it as the menu looked great but we were so disappointed. We got there at nine fifteen, and things boded well as we were seated quickly and the atmosphere was good. Our shared starter arrived almost straight away but we had to then wait an hour and a half for our main courses - a stir fry and a grill which hardly take long to make. When it arrived, the food was OK, but not worth the wait nor the price, even at 50% off. We asked for the service charge to be removed from the bill but they forgot and I couldn't be bothered waiting even longer for it to be rectified so they got away with keeping the charge, even though the service had been so bad. It's a shame because the waitresses were nice and friendly - it's just a hapless operation.

This restaurant is a RIP-OFF - I would never go back again and I would not recommend it to anyone.

My family and I went there this evening, after reading all the favourable reviews on this website. We also took advantage of the promotion on this website that allows for 50% discount off the total food bill.

When the food came, we thought the portions were rather small for the listed price on the menu. Initially, we ordered three starters, and two main courses with rice for our party which consists of 2 adults and an 8-year old. We ended up ordering an additional starter and a further main course because the food was just not enough. What was appalling was the last main course that we ordered -"grilled jumbo prawns in curry sauce" - for 16 quid, we were served TWO prawns, which were normal in size. Not even in the Michelin-starred restaurants have I ever been charged 8 quid for a prawn!

After voicing our displeasure to the waitress, we were given the impression that because we were utilising the 50% discount promotion, our food portions have been reduced. That was preposterous!!! What''s the point of offering promotional discounts when you are going to reduce the portions served, so that patrons end up having to order more? That defeats the whole purpose of a discount.

We were so disgusted that we left without even trying the dessert, which we were so looking forward to.

Even if the portions have not been reduced, then the price that was charged is too high for the portions served. While the food is quite good, it is not good enough for the exorbitant price. Either way, may be it be the pricing or the lack of principles, we will definitely not be going back to this restaurant again. There are other much better Thai restaurants I would have willingly paid for.
