I celebrated my big 4-0 at the restrant last sunday with thirty friends and familty and ten children. The staff were helpful and friendly and the service provided impectable. We managed to get most of our guests on the deck over looking the river and the staff served champagne and soft drinks continuously for an hour until all the guests arrived.
Sunday buffet lunch was good value, and an adequate supply of Vegaterian dishes were availablle for our non carnivore invitees.
The deserts served were excellent .
Again service was superb and all our guests went home extremly happy.
We had a budget of £1000.00, and the bill came in slightly less than that.
All in all an excellent venue for that special occassion

Being a local resident I have eaten many times over the years that the place has been open and I debated whether or not to write a review, but the last three experiences have left my asking the question 'What has changed?'
When the place first opened, I was amongst the first to eat there and I found the food to be good and I enjoyed the experience.
The last three visits have been nothing short of disappointing. The quality of the food has changed and it does not taste as good. Has the Chef changed?
The restaurant is in a good location and I hope that they are able to read the reviews, take the comments on board and turn it around. I fear that the place may not last otherwise.

Think previous reviews have been overly harsh, but our experience was pretty average. We were asked if we had booked - made me laugh as of the six tables nearest the river which we were told were reserved, only one was used throughout our whole meal!
Restaurant has neat tables but a tacky feel in general. View of the river is pretty much obscured unless you have a seat outside, and even then you are sitting next to a pedestrian area with interruptions of the trains running nearby due to lack of sound insulation.
Starter was shared platter - very nice but nothing special. Main course Kao Pad Suparrot was good but put off by raisin content. Ped Ma Karm was overpiced with little meat - the sauce was sickly sweet. Goong Pad Prik Pao was the best of the lot - prawns nicely cooked.
Desserts were very amateurish - something you would expect from a rundown restaurant in Tenerife.
Decor is pretty horrible and tacky, toilets not exactly in the best condition. The restaurant cannot decide if it wants to be a bog standard Thai restuarant or more up market - the inside is very confusing.
Service was very pleasant and pretty fast, but over £90 for two people with one bottle of wine was was over the top for what essentially is an average takeaway. Quite noticeable that we sat there from 7pm to 8.30pm and only two other couples were eating. Worst was the cd playing elevator music - Beyonce interpretations by a piano player!

We went to Thai on the River a few weeks ago. We had been there previously and had loved the food, the ambience and the service. We were so incredibly disappointed - the quality of the food was really poor (aside from the coconut soup) and it just didn't have the same feel about it as previous visits. We had raved about Thai on the River and were very embarrassed that it was so poor. If it hadn't been 50% we would have seriously queried the bill, because it just wasn't worth it. Additionally this restaurant is very clear that it does not use MSG, but we think they do use it in the ghastly prawn crackers we were given at the beginning of the meal. This was genuinely disappointing for us and we hope that at some stage Thai on the River gets back to its previous standards.

Food was ok not exceptional at all and we got there around 5.00pm on a Sunday and left around 8.00pm and still we were the only people in restaurant...weird! Nice views though.

A group of 10 of us ate here last weekend to enjoy the Sunday Buffet. DON'T BOTHER! It was dreadful. The food was luke warm or cold, congealed and non descript. Water was poured from jugs that had been prepared that morning, so water was warm and cloudy. The glasses and crockery were all smeared and stained. Our table cloth has patches of greasey marks.
The view from the restaurant is not exciting, a large rail bridge, office and modern residential blocks and the odd boat. I couldn't believe it when service charge was added for a Self Service Buffet. I am glad I did not get food poisoning!

good and polite service,
but 3 glaring negatives stood out
1) it's advertised as "on the river" even by it's name, yet inside, even by the windows there was hardly any view. Restricted by both bad architecture and bushes. So the novelty of it's location is rather void.
2) I had a beef penang. Some of it was undercooked and red to the point of being raw. The other pieces were chewy like rubber, most definitely not fresh. I've had this dish in countless other Thai restaurants, and this was by far the worst. I was on a date so I decided not to bother with making a scene.
3) The priviledge for all of the above was paying for it through the nose. Even had the food had been fresh and /or cooked properly, it still would have been overpriced.

Went to Thai on the River yesterday evening and I have to say it was a very pleasant restaurant. The food is great, although a bit pricey. However the service was great and the views from the terrace are spectacular at night so overall well worth it.

A group of 12 of us came to Thai on the River last Saturday night and had a fantastic evening. The food was spot on and the waitresses were attentive and really friendly. I look forward to dining there again soon.

Having read reviews about the 'Thai on the river' restaurant, I was worried about going there. However it was my sister's birthday and she'd heard that it was a good place to go, so we went. The first thing to say is don't let the outside put you off. Inside, the atmosphere and views (especially at night) are brilliant. The staff were slow to begin with but were always extremely pleasant, and became increasingly attentive as the evening went on. The traditional thai food was delicious from start to finish. They even brought out a pudding with a candle in it and sang happy birthday to my sister as it was her birthday! Also, we got 25% off, having booked on line, which made the meal extermely good value! I would definitely go again!
