i have been going to this place for years now, since been introduced by a very good friend of mine, my kids love the food. even though i miss ambrose and linda, the food still remains tasty as ever and the new owners are friendly as well. i will still continue to celebrate all my birthdays there.

this place is awesome, tried it tonight on a recommendation. staff are friendly but not overbearing. food was excellent. and though a small dining area, kaya house was full, with a diverse mix of people. For me a full house with a eclectic mix suggests only one thing: good food.

I've been going to the Kaya House for years and years. Although Ambrose and Linda partly defined the place before, it was always the excellent food that made me return time after time.
It's the same chefs in the kitchen! The food is fantastic!
And I'm not sure that the new owners aren't Malaysian, actually. In Malaysia there are Malaysians, Malaysian Chinese and Malaysian Indian (and probably lots of other people, too!). Linda isn't Malaysian - she's from Hong Kong. So...
And anyway, whatever you order there is so delicious, it's hardly a risk going with the unknown.
The big question: has it closed down?

I went along last week with my neice who had been there with me when the previous owners had the Kaya House. We both thought the food was excellent and whilst we missed Ambrose and family, the staff were excellent and as I said I thought the food was very good indeed. We are booked to go again with friends next week.

I'm not sure why a 'Malay Queen' would need much help with the menu of a Malaysian restaurant ! But seriously, I am not that familiar with Malaysian food myself , and while the front of house staff aren't Malaysian, I have found them very helpful, friendly and welcoming. They have also recommended some dishes that are now my favourites so they are obviously learning v fast! And, rest assured, the food is still as delicious as ever .

I used to love this restaurant...
However, now it has new owners and the place has really gone downhill since Ambrose sold up and went back to Malaysia. The new owners are not Malaysian and know absolutely nothing about Malaysian food!!
It seems to be the same cooks in the kitchen, but any questions you have about dishes on the menu are met with a blank face by the new owners, so you pretty much have to guess at what you'll be getting. It's not the same any more at all, just very disappointing.

I'm not sure where the previous reviewer dined but I too have travelled extensively throughout South East Asia and found the food at Kaya House to be very comparable and in some cases slightly more suited to my western pallet.
They serve the most beautiful crispy succulent lamb in lettuce wrap, Salt and pepper soft shell crab and wonderful nasi goreng.
The place is very clean, well run and hosted. I always look forward to going Kaya House as a (most inexpensive) treat.
Please try this restaurant, just not on the night I want a reservation!!

All those who wrote and commented highly about this restaurant need to go to a real Malaysian restaurant - try the Malaysian restaurants in the Paddington area. I went to Kaya with high hopes after having read your reports and I was very, very disappointed. Having spent half my life in Singapore and Malaysia, I know what good Malaysian food tastes like and this is my first and definitely my last visit to this restaurant. My advice to the new owners "Get a new cook"‎

Definitely one of the best restaurants I have ever been to in my life. The food is outstanding, the atmosphere always friendly and lively and the welcome from Ambrose and Linda could not be warmer.
Yes, you do need to book well in advance for a table but for a fantastic meal at a very reasonable price, I could not recommend it highly enough.
All the food is freshly prepared and there are lots of excellent vegetarian options.
