Dollar Grills & Martinis

I read plenty of reviews about Dollar the word was so good I had to check it out for myself, so I did and discovered what everyone else was raving about. The steaks – first rate, the wine – a fine assortment, the cocktails – simply the best I’ve ever had. I would highly recommend Dollar any day of the week. Thanks for a great time.

After a very busy few months at work, including a high pressure change of job, my evening at Dollar Grills was a fantastic break from everything (including the kids!). When we arrived we were seated graciously by a young waiter and shown the (extensive) drinks menu. We ordered a couple of drinks, including a lovely cocktail reccomended to us by our waiter, which I've forgotten the name of, a something Old Fashioned I think. Anyway, the drinks were delicious and served promptly. The starters on the other hand did seem somewhat overpriced, though they were tasty. The burgers however were stunning, large and chunky, a really tasty delight. Nevertheless they were expensive, like the starters, and that put us off desert, although we did have more cocktails, which are all of brilliant value.

Overall we had a fantastic night with terrific service. The staff are all very young, courteous and attractive, in fact we had a sneaking suspicion that our waiter was a model for the menu covers. So come here if you love all things cocktails, martini and burger and to be waited on hand a foot. Be ready to splash out a bit, but if you do, you'll have a great evening. Enjoy!

I WAS REALLY DISAPPOINTED BY THIS RESTAURANT:-

1) They lost our booking, and thus gave us an awful table by the door with blasts of chilly, smoke-filled, air hitting us every time the door opened

2) They took no less than 38 minutes to bring our drinks and had to be asked four times to bring them.

3) They entirely lost one order, and made a mistake with one of the burgers ordered, which they tried to cover up and claim it was actually the dish we had ordered. It wasn't, and when we were promised it would take "two minutes" for the replacement, we had to wait 20 minutes.

4) We found you got served more quickly if you went straight to the kitchen to pick up your own water/condiments.

Overall, staff were just woefully incompetent, service was slow, and the food was entirely unremarkable - you get better burgers for less money and service at Gourmet Burger Kitchen. Management did give us one burger free, but then added on an extra cocktail to the bill by accident. We were embarrassed for them. The restaurant has far too many covers for its capacity. The Martinis (when they came) though were excellent. But I'd warn you that you will have a long wait to receive them, and may not even get the one you had ordered. AVOID.

My Husband and I came from the south coast after reading the reviews here, and we were so pleased we did.

The cellar bar was gorgeous, a real treat. Very private and the martinis were to die for. The food was also excellent. I had the veggie burger and it was fabulous. The waiter service was friendly and helpful, even if he did forget that we ordered! Our food arrived promptly, and our every need was dealt with with a smile. We felt it was very good value for money too. The martinis were well priced and the two of us ate and drank for £50.

We truly had a wonderful evening, and felt it only right we left a good review for a restaurant that we will happily visit again if we visit London again.

Thanks, you made our first night away from our kids in 6 years very special.

i'm a bit of a regular at dollar and have always had a very enjoyable experience when dining there. the waiters are great. the food is great and the atmosphere is great. i was really really disappointed, though, to find that they've taken the tuna burger off your menu. i know this may seem like an insignificant thing, but firstly it was truly delicious (especially with some goats' cheese added - yes, yes, i know you're not supposed to mix fish with cheese but this is an allowable exception) and also i don't eat any meat other than fish and am not a fan of vege burgers (too stodgy) so for me it's rather a crushing disappointment. dollar does the best burgers in london and also the best dirty martinis. i love coming, but must say the real drawcard is being able to have a great burger and now i can't.

is there any way that they can reinstate this dish? please, please, please! it can't be that hard to buy a few cuts of tuna and stick them on the grill.

We ate here last night and it was absolutly lovely. Lovely atmosphere - cool without being pretensious, great burgers and cocktails and a very attractive waitress. Best restaurant on Exmouth Market in my opinion.

Six months ago, this place was great - but last week, things seemed to be slipping a bit. The lobster was tiny. I mean, like an enlarged prawn more than lobster. An American friend ordered it and demanded some breast of chicken so he wouldn't die of hunger. My burger was cold. Nicely presented and no doubt flavoursome - but cold. As was another diner's. Small details like the bread, which was inedible - and I am a bread addict. This place did seem very special but a local who lives near Exmouth Market said most people who lived round there had given up on it. In spite of that, it was crowded. The service was good and drinks came promptly. However, I'm not paying those prices when I can go to Moro up the road and get a much better meal. They really need to look at what's going on in the kitchen. And buy bigger lobsters!!!

Recommended delicious steaks and lobster, service everything you could want.

With the 50% deal it came to £30 which was excellent value.

What a gem. Being American wasn't exactly sure whether it was a good idea to go to the Las-Vegas-themed restaurant in London, but my girlfriend was right - as always.... Simple but delicious food, burgers to die for, top marks for martinis too. Don't miss it!
