We went there for our office Christmas party and what a terrible experience it was.

Firstly I asked for a steak pink but it came out very red indeed, was tough as old boots and the accompanying potatoes were cold. When asked by the waitress if it was okay, as I left inedible steak, I explained the problems only to be spoken to in a condescending way regarding the colour. "Pink is subjective" she said - hmmm, I am no artist but I do know the difference between pink and red.

Added to that they then bought me the wrong dessert and had the cheek to charge £5 for a bottle of Spitfire which is only £1 in my local super market.

This place is an absolute rip-off - do not go an waste your money or time here!

The quality of the ribeye was well below expectations. I went here last year and it was brilliant.

I had dinner at Smithfield Bar & Grill last night with two friends. One of us had a 'Taste' discount card which entitled us to a pretty hefty discount off our bill. Unfortunately either the waiter resented our use of the discount card or he was having a rather bad night. The service was terse and we felt uncomfortable each time the waiter approached us. He seemed annoyed that two of us had water as we waited for our third friend to arrive before ordering drinks (which we did- but just wanted to wait). He keep trying to upsell our meals, repeatedly asking if we'd like side orders and appearing irritated when we didn't want anything else. When one of us asked if its possible to have her tuna steak cooked 'medium rare' he replied that it would either be rare or well done, although could ask the chef (as if it were a huge inconvenience). Altogether I felt as though we were unwelcome unless we ordered vast amounts of food and multiple bottles of wine. Rather a shame as there were plenty of empty tables and they should be happy for the business, regardless of our order.

Little does the waiter realise I regularly take clients to long lunches but, having tried this restaurant and experiencing rude service, I will certainly not be visiting again.

I have to disagree with all these negative reviews. Went for the 50% off food offer and was rewarded with the best steak experience of my life.

Ordered the chateaubriand, it was amazing. Grilled to perfection, melt in the mouth slices of meaty heaven. Have to concur with the other reviewer that there was not enough bearnaise but would like to add that I asked for some more and promptly received it.

In addition, my zombie cocktail was well executed, and lasted me the entire meal, and our desserts were superb, although i would recommend my dining partner's choice of the maple and pecan cheesecake over my choice of the chocolate torte.

The following went wrong with our lunch at the Smithfield Bar and Grill in London yesterday:

1) Waitress tipped water over us

2) Chef refused to mix Xmas menu and a la carte per table

3) Turkey and Xmas pudding were school dinner standard

4) Had to order cheese and port twice

5) Were asked how our meal was before we'd picked up our cutlery

6) Bill was wrong

Any one of the above is no big deal, but 6 bad experiences in 1 meal indicates a badly run venue.

Worst dining experience in many months

We picked Smithfield Bar & Grill because our visitors wanted "English" food and we wanted a convenient location for our party of 7 for a Friday night dinner. The bar was packed and extremely noisy. The restaurant isn't separated from the bar by anything that blocks noise -- just up a half flight of stairs -- so it was almost impossible to hear conversation across the table. The waiters didn't know what dishes had been ordered by each person, and made other basic mistakes. They were very polite and helpful but didn't give the quality of service one expects in a top-class restaurant. The toilets were disgusting and became more so as the bar customers got drunker and drunker and the railing on the stairs down to the toilets was sticky -- I shudder to think with what! . Lastly, the food wasn't up to the prices. One would expect excellent steaks across the street from Smithfield Market but ours were only average. None of us had been to this restaurant before and now none of us will ever go again.

Went here a few years ago and had an enjoyable meal but how things change.

Took a couple of friends over from Hong Kong for dinner on a Friday and was quite a depressing experience.

Why? The kitchen had ran out of most things we wanted. For a steak house to run out of rump steak is pretty poor.

Food Quality was poor, being so close to the market I was expecting my steak to be a lot better than it was. It was 2 for £10 standard that I could get out of London in any back street pub. Sides were scrappy and not well presented.

Atmosphere was noisy with drunks screaming from the bar and an Oasis covers band playing too loudly. It's Friday night so was expecting some noise but was more like a Yates WIne Lodge in Cardiff than a steak house in Smithfield Mkt.

Decor. Is faded, toilets were not cleaned, urinals were cracked, towels all over the floor.

Service was adequate, the waiter just looked embarrased most of the time to be working there. Felt sorry for him.

Wine was nice.

Anyway looks like its fallen on bad times. Wont be going back.

Made a booking for 20 colleagues at Smithfield Bar and Grill and I have to say the service was wonderful. I was given so much assistance with the booking and the what choices to make with which wines. We were given a lovely table where service was impeccable and the staff were so friendly and obliging. The food was excellent quality (steaks are the best!)and everyone had a wonderful time. I would highly recommend this restaurant.
