My friend emailed me to say she’s booked us a table at Spiga for lunch. When I googled the name to get a map, up came London-Eating, and a dismal review. Slightly bemused, given my friend had mentioned she’d been here many times before and had lovely meals (and she’s a fussy one!).

I found the service to be perfectly good, and the food was lovely. I had a starter (mozzarella + tomato salad) and a main (crab linguini) both of which were excellent. The wine was also great, but that may just be my friends’ good taste! I would definitely go back again. Added to that, when they brought over the bill, they informed my friend she was entitled to a 50% discount because she had booked via Top Table. So all in all, good service, good food, good wine, and all at a good price!

RUBBISH!!! Utter rubbish. We booked through this site for the 50% discount. They couldn't find the booking, were difficult about giving us the discount, gave us the wrong bill at the end of the meal AND insisted on adding 12.5% service charge (which should be optional, not obligatory). On top of all that it took ages to get served, despite there being few other diners, and my friend's steak was approx 1" squared (and sliced thinly to give the impression of being more than there actually was) - hardly the 'sirloin steak' advertised on the menu.

Honestly, we'd have been better off in a Pizza Express.

Spiga is my new favourite pizza restaurant in London. We walked in off the street on a Thursday evening and got a table. We were both starving so ordered the pizza garlic bread to start while we chose our pizzas. The garlic bread is essentially the size of another pizza!! I had the 4 cheese pizza which was fantastic. For 2 pizzas, the garlic bread, a bottle of wine, water and service the bill was a reasonable £50.

Not one person in our party of four finished their mains. All of the dishes looked like they had been sitting under a heat lamp. The pasta was generally overcooked and there was way too much cheese in everything. The restaurant generally smells like cheese.

Grumpy waiter could barely articulate the choices and grunted instead of speaking. And the manager didn't seem to care that we were leaving with our food unfinished. But for some reason there was a decently large number of diners, but I guess they weren't able to get a table at the better places in Soho (just like us).

I took my husband to Spiga for his birthday last week, after finding it on a search for 'best tiramisu in London.' Having read so-so reviews of the food, we were prepared not to be overwhelmed, but we had great expectations for dessert. We hadn't bargained on the lousy service, however. The maitre d' seated us and instead of a smile, greeting (or even happy birthday...) he informed us that he needed the table back by 20.30 - it was just past 19.00. Our orders were taken almost immediately and the starter came in lightning fashion. We were still eating the starter when the entrees arrived. Talk about pressure!

The tiramisu and gelato made up for the lacklustre meal. The tiramisu might not be the best in London, but it definitely was special. The gelato was lovely and creamy. Desserts are definitely what Spiga do best, and if I ever go back, I'll head straight for the sweets.

Was disappointed by the mandatory (and fully undeserved) service charge but didn't want to make a scene (and I couldn't exactly start disputing the bill in front of my husband. 'Happy birthday, but I'm feeling cheap and uncharitable tonight...')

Stick to the tiramisu and don't plan on staying too long. In fact, it might be worth seeing if they offer takeaway.

I went to Spiga for lunch on Friday 14th December. It was very busy - bang in the middle of Christmas party season. However, this does not excuse the extremely rude chap on the desk, nor the general lack of care displayed by the waiting staff. On this basis, I would not recommend it. There are plenty of other restaurants. Avoid this one.

I went to Spiga some years ago when it first opened-it was a good Pizza place. A little different to the chains and tasty pizza.

I took a work colleague there last week and what a disappointment it was. A cold/frosty reception by the maitre de type character into a lively noisy reasonable atmosphere restaurant. We ordered two pizza when eventually our waiter got to the table-it was the same icey maitre de-he didnt write our order down and an hour later we were chasing our order. He didnt actually communicate with us - I asked him to find out where our order was and he just walked away-I presume he heard what I said. Ten minutes later our pizzas arrive. They were great-tasty and hot-well done the chef. Two other tables on our line aked for the service charge to be taken off and as we bolted our lunch to get back to the office one hour and 45mins after arriving-so did we. No one asked why or said good bye-have a nice day, no nothing as we left this shambles of a restaurant. Great chef-bad attitude, lousy service.

Went there for lunch today and had a really good meal. Service was really good, didn't feel rushed and would definitely go back.
