Lydon's

Five of us ate lunch at Lydons, a Christmas meeting of old friends. Service? A head waiter who couldn't be bothered to be pleasant, a waiter who barely spoke and a waitress who was utterly delightful. We passed on starters and dived straight into main courses. 3 had calves liver - no-one ate the complete course because the calves liver was 'pappy'. One had chicken stuffed with mozzarella, verdict, chicken dry, sauce lovely. The final main course of Crispy Duck with Stuffing and apple sauce was not good unfortunately. Duck stringy, stuffing undercooked, sauce cold. Puddings were fine.

Actually, all of the food problems probably would have been forgiven had the service been friendly, but no. Five main courses, four puddings, two bottles of wine and a bill for £164.00 later means that we will never return and they have lost at least 3 regular customers. Pity!

Just returned from this restaurant tonight after a meal out with my family and quite frankly I'm rather disappointed.

It was generally very poor service, with the waiters being very surly and not interested in serving us at all. When we eventually managed to order wine and food, it was rushed and dropped on the table; the waiter leaning from one side of the table over your plate to put the food on the opposite side. What ever happened to table etiquette?

It didn't help that the table we reserved was in the middle aisle, very close to adjacent tables, and the waiters continuously squeezed between us, jostling chairs and making you paranoid about someone either dropping a hot plate of food down your back or making you spill your wine down your front.

To be honest, I really didn't feel welcomed at all. Poor service really detracts from the experience, no matter how good the food. Tonight, the food was average but the poor service detracted completely. Such a shame. I had big expectations which this restaurant failed to meet.

Very surprised at the negative reviews here. We dined there on Sat night and have to say that the food was excellent. Service was very friendly and efficient. Restaurant has a traditional old style look and feel about it but the atmosphere was brilliant.

The specials of the day were fab and they had an excellent choice of fish and shellfish.

Wine list had good choices with a wide range of prices.

Definitely will be returning.

I was surprised by the reviews, my experience of Lydon's was excellent, the food was outstanding, I started with delicious garlic prawns which I followed by a perfectly cooked steak, difficult choice considering the options, I was very tempted by the fresh fish shown to me and although I was full I managed to squeeze in a lovely orangey dessert.

I have no hesitation in recommending Lydon's and will definately be eating there again and soon!

Sunday lunch 20/12/09 service was non existent food very average had to ask twice for main course and twice for dessert arrived at 1/45 left 3 hours later i have been a regular client for some years but that is the last time they will see me and my friends

A very disappointing experience. The service was unfriendly, abrupt and forgetful, the food was OK though the fruit crumble was served barely warm. At the end of the meal and after paying (including the service charge), we politely mentioned our disappointment to the manager who barely listened and whose sole response was to say 'thank you'. Not recommended.

Rubbish meal. starter - mushrooms - very tough and almost inedible ( left most of them)

main - fish kebab - fish over cooked and dry. seasonal veg which turned out to be fried potatoes and fried mushrooms (left over from the starter?) and a few green beans

at least the pudding was just about ok.

don't go there as is not cheap and there are much better alternatives in the area
