We went to the restaurant last week as we wanted to experience real fine-dining. I had developed an admiration for Angela Hartnett a few years earlier due to a documentary about her taking over at the Connaught. I'm afraid that I have never been to Petrus or Ramsay's so I have no comparison point. However, I can say it was exquisite in every aspect. The staff were helpful without being intrusive, and the food was extraordinary from start to finish. We had the Chef's Tasting Menu and it contained a well-thought mixture of traditional dishes and more eclectic combinations. To designate it as French is quite wrong. There were a number of Italian touches, as in the Mushroom and truffle Farfalla, and plain English ones, a pleasant pea soup for example. It also varied between bourgeois and proletariat, complicated and simple; a good alternation.
The only possible complaint I could have was that there was a lot of fruit in the food (scallops and melon, mandarin soufflé, foie gras with apricots) but it was all delicious. So if you want an evening of experience rather than a good, quick, hearty meal I cannot recommend the Connaught highly enough.

Enjoyed Easter Dinner here with their three course offering. Wonderful food, well presented by non stuffy service which welcomed questions and even provided written answers for us memory impaired regarding the cheese selection and where to procure in the London area.
Sommilier suggested a wonderful match to the food without making us feel ignorant!
Worth the star and the cost.

I have to admit I'm a bit of a novice at fine dining. Went here for my fiance's birthday on Friday 10th March. Was very impressed, although haven't been to any other michelin star restaurants to compare. Food was divine and although expensive, with the professional service and little extras, it is still good value if that's what you're after.
Some advice though; we arrived just after 8:30 and were the last to be seated by some way, so it's perhaps worth booking for an earlier table or else you'll be the last left in the quiet dining room.
