American Bar (Connaught)
your comments review this restaurant and win a bottle of champagne
This was one of the least enjoyable experiences I have ever had in London. A friend invited me to the Connaught as a special treat. Having never been, I was anticipating a great afternoon. It would have been almost comical had the prices not been so exorbinant.
The staff were apparently unhappy. Despite the fact that this gent is somewhat of a regular, the waiters clearly had been well trained in the art of staring into the middle distance and ignoring the few of us foolish enough to come to the bar. It took the better part of 20 minutes to get drinks to the table and they were delivered with an amusing degree of annoyance.
We were going to stay on, but decided to skip it. At these prices, the Fawlty Tower style of service was not acceptable. The staff truly was indifferent as to whether we stayed or not. They seemed quite relieved to be able to get back to their conversations which had been so rudely interrupted by guests attemping to order a drink.
