After my last negative experience with Tayyab, I thought I would give it another chance. However I called them to ask about reserving a table, and I was told to turn up. As I was asking about how long I might have to wait if we turned up on Friday evening, they cut me off mid-sentence with '"ok bye" and put down the phone. I can't say I've ever been treated in this manner by any other restaurant, and I won't be attempting to dine at Tayyab a second time.

We came here in a group of 8, and before I had even arrived, the rest of the group were put into the VIP room with no explanation and then told they could not have water in this room. After asking to be seated in the regular restaurant section, I arrived and ordered a starter and a lassi. However after half an hour, and the main courses of the rest of the group arriving, and my asking where my starters were several times, I was told 'it's coming' about 6 times by 6 different waiters, with one waiter saying 'you came late, you get your food late'. Very poor service and attitude. When my food finally came, it was dumped in front of me with a 'see we told you it was coming' attitude and no eye contact.

Another person in the group ordered rice with his curry, but the rice did not arrive, and after repeatedly asking where the rice was, it finally arrived after the curry had already been eaten. No apology or explanation. We were given the bill as soon as we finished the main course, without even a chance to order dessert.

All in all, very poor service, extremely noisy and crowded seating, and not anything of the ordinary in terms of food. The only item worth mentioning on the menu is their starter kebab, which was succulent and flavourful. Otherwise skip this, and go to any other Indian restaurant.

Good food but certainly not polite and courteous service as the web-site states. Have never been so quickly hurried through a meal with starters and main courses arriving together; presented with a bill before finishing sweets. Staff offhand. Tables and chairs so packed it is hard to sit down comfortably.

best curry in london? well, as someone who has eaten curries since being delivered from his mother's womb over 30 years ago, this place was good - but not special. And I am talking about the food alone. Not the service (good, friendly), atmosphere (buzzing, but packed) and decor (not noticeable). There are plenty of brick lane curry places as good in terms of pure taste. So don't believe the hype - it's good, but not special. Certainly don't queue up for it.

Went last night for a company Xmas meal, which we'd booked in advance.

The service was quick and the food was very tasty, expecially the lamb chops, Sheekh kebabs and the dry meat curry.

However would be reluctant to go back, simply because of how busy they were.

It was a thurs night and yet there was a huge queue constantly waiting, hence we felt quite uncomfortable eating whilst people were watching us, but also, the waiter started resetting our table while we were still trying to get up off our seats.

So overall would say the food is fantastic, but maybe they are a victim of their own success?

spectacularly underwhelmed.

having read the rave reviews about the lamb chops i tried them and they were burnt and almost sour in flavour and you need a good set of fangs to get all the meat oof them, also red fingers for a good few washes so lots of food colouring used and i suspect 'powdered' spices if you get my drift- the artificial flavour. Followed with a karhai gosht, lamb of course which was very good, but the naan bread that accompaniedit was mediocre. As with nearly all indian/bangladeshi restaurants, tables too close together! not bad but would'nt hurry back.

surly waiter who tried to get me to order more than i wanted and tried to make out he could'nt understand me when i maintained i only wanted a few dishes.

oh blimey!!

I went in for lunch one day last week. The restuarant seemed modern, comfortable and clean and also the stff were pleasent. The service was fast - bordering on the telepathic - although it would have been nice to have more time to look over the menu. The staff seemed keen to maintain a high rate of turn diner turn over - at my next table waiters re-laid the table as the current inhabitants awaited their bill! I ordered a Chicken Khari, mixed veg khari and a plain naan. The portions were extreamly small - I counted maybe 3 tables spoons of each dish! The flavour was good, but the texture was spoiled by an abundance of oil in each dish. Perhaps I caught them on a bad day - but based on this experience I wouldn't have thought this was the kind of place you might go out of your way to find.

Animated ambience with deliciously scrumptious authentic Indian food – a must for all Indian food lovers (the lamp chops are to die for!)
