what the critics say

This Is London

David Sexton - 0/5

Thursday, July 23, 2009 - The whole place is dominated by giant plasma screens, all showing the same thing and all the diners gaze up at the screens, all the time. They don't talk, which is effectively prevented by the mighty sound-system in the roof anyway...The cooking itself has nothing to be said for it. Sugar has been put into places where you don't want to find it. 'Our World Famous Chicken Crunch' is a starter composed of strips of breast cooked in, dreadfully, 'a crunchy, sweet coating'. Even a serving of deep-fried crispy calamari in breadcrumbs came with a sickeningly sweet sauce of 'thousand island dressing'.

Metro

Marina O'Loughlin - 1/5

Friday, July 10, 2009 - And it gets worse: ribs that lurch off the bone like zombie flesh doused in a sauce that tastes like tooth decay. 'Home-made manicotti': pulpy pasta with too much spinach in an impenetrable carapace of nuked mozzarella. The steak sandwich tastes of little other than its 'bleu' cheese topping...It doesn't even have the decency to be cheap. If you must have this sort of thing, you're better off at TGI Friday's. And there's something I never thought I'd find myself typing.

This was awful. We nearly turned away at the door but my husband loves burgers and we thought if anywhere would do a great burger it would be Planet Hollywood. We wish we had walked away. It was tacky, like a cattle market and trying to squeeze as many people in as possible. It lost any novelty factor is was meant to have with memorabilia as it was so busy you couldn't see anything. The music was so loud we thought we were in a club. This is just the start. I told them I was allergic to cheese, the waiter asked the chef if they could cut the garlic pizza in half before adding the cheese. He said this was ok. It came as one with the cheese spilling over. We had to wait half an hour for one to come out without cheese and it was awful. It was rock hard, so much so the centre where it was cut into points was actually sharp. It didn't even have any taste. The main arrived and I ordered a £19 sirloin steak, cooked medium, you'd think this would be good. I couldn't even cut it, it was stringy and when I got to a thinker but I realised why. There was a great thick white line of grizzle going throughout the steak. It was such a bad cut I stopped eating it. My husbands burger was "ok" in his words. This means it was rubbish. He didn't even eat his fries coz he said they were awful, on my plate the fries were the best bit. For this food and a couple of drinks we walked away £80 lighter. Never again would we go back or recommend anyone to go. Everything about it was awful.

Went with my mum, daughter and niece, thought it would be a nice novel place to eat as we had traveled far for a visit to London.I would rate the food as very average, but I was most disappointed by the service. We were served by a waiter who when we placed our order and my mum stated that she does not like anything on her burger, 'no cheese or salad' she requested was responded by a grunt, she then checked they would put no sauce on it either, 'we don't put any sauce on our burgers' was our very Sharp reply. Once the meal came he bought us over ketchup and mustard which he placed on the table with no comment, and left. As it happens I would have liked mayonaise and vinegar, I waited 10 mins to see if he was passing but unfortunately he was engrossed what I can only imagine was a very important conversation with other work collegues, so I got up and asked the bar staff. THEN, when my other family members had finished their meal he came and cleared their plates taking with him all sauces which I had not finished with so I had to go in search for my condements for a 2nd time!

I am hoping he was having an 'off' day, if not I strongly recommend he seeks a different career or Planet Hollywood send him on a customer care course.

Went to Planet Hollywood with some friends last weekend and we had a great time. Very busy and noisy but service was great and so was the food.

Will definitely go back again.

Visited with my wife and daughter to celebrate my wife's birthday. Restaurant is airy and modern. Music was far too noisy for any conversation. Screens very naff.

Mixed reaction on food - my burger was burned black on 1 side which they tried to hide by flipping it over. It was inedible. The other 2 meals faired slightly better and were just edible. All french fries were on the cold side. The sweet was good. For a meal costing £25 per head extremely poor quality - not even to the standard of a truckers road side cafe!

I think this restaurant has had its day. At least it has with me. It's a glorified burger joint with lots of film memorabilia. This is somewhere I used to like in my twenties and have gradually fallen out of love with as I've grown older. I think it's fair to say that it caters for the younger crowd and I'm probably just moving out of that age group now.

The food was actually okay - for a fee! The decor was verging on the cheesy, but I think that's the point. service was pretty standard.

I think they charge a bit too much here. If they are going for the younger crowd, they should charge prices more appropriate to that demographic. So it's nothing special. But it's okay.

bad food, bad style, bad service, bad prices, bad taste

Everything was shocking, complained at the time and didnt get anywhere so I wrote a letter, for which I got a rather rubbish response from a rude woman.

No customer service skills whatsoever and a total flop since it has changed.

We have just returned from an evening at London's Planet Hollywood. We are aged over 40 and 4 of us went for dinner at 8.00pm. It was a liitle early for us as there were lots of young 16 olds who were very noisy screaming with delight when they saw themselves on the large screens which was part of the internal CCTV system. Nice gimmick but got a little boring and very loud..

However the service for our table was provided by "Simon" who was attentaive and proffesional with a never ending smile and polite manner. The food was suppriingly very good for a fast food type environment and the portions were very large and well presented. We had used a prepay promotion voucher which did give us a good discount which gave the overall evening good value for money.

Would I go there again.......? Maybe to take our children and grandkids for a birthday etc as they to would enjoy the earlier evening frivolities. 7/10

Unfortunately never went to the old site with its memorabilia, but apparently a lot of this has been not made the transition! Now atmosphere depends on a few bits of stuff in frames on two of the walls and a statue in the entrance porch. Basically a large room crammed full of formica tables, no atmosphere, excessively loud screens showing the same 5 minute looped tape over and over. Food was overpriced and did not make up for the complete lack of any other pleasant aspects. What a dump!!! Reminds me of a works canteen, which would at least be honest about what it is. If you want my advice - don't go!
