Food for Thought is a long time favourite for me. It's an institution. The food is always very well prepared with good quality, fresh ingredients. The dishes are very flavourful and nice and substantial (something that is sometimes lacking with vegetarian choices). A standing feature on the menu is their quiche with mixed salad. The variety in taste and texture in the salads works very well. I also love the hot dishes and the deserts and have never had anything I didn't like here. Great fruit scrunches, fruit crumbles with cream and custard too. I will even go to Covent Garden specially to eat here.
I'm not even a vegetarian but I do love well thought out vegetarian food like this. I know that non-meat eating friends complain that just because you are a vegetarian, restaurants often assume you must be on some sort of starvation diet (eg just vegetables by themselves or some sort of 'diet' dessert). Not so here. Food for Thought proves it's possible to have both tasty, nutritious and wholesome vegetarian food.
Don't come here expecting some sort of candlelit, white table cloth restaurant ( I think that's what one or two of the other reviewers below were looking for). It's a very small but cosy and friendly space that manages to turn out great food in a high rent area of Covent Garden that is dominated by chains or more expensive places. The lunchtime trade, when I usually go, is brisk and so you will probably have to sit on a table with other people and squeeze in a bit. There may be a short line and people are usually in a hurry to eat and go and the servers aim to be quick and efficient, so just bear that in mind. They also do take away (get that from the counter upstairs).
Tip! I try to avoid the peak time and go a bit earlier or later when the crowds are less.

Nice food, seating conditions are cramped, but I knew that before I went. However, the guy who clears the plates shouted at me that he needed the table back. I was still eating, and had only been there around 15 minutes. When I told him this, he was aggressive, and gave me evils when I left later on. So, nice food marred by aggressive staff member. What a shame.

Been here twice now when visiting London. The food is fantastic - very tasty and feels like it's doing you good. Although a little short on space it adds to the atmosphere sharing with strangers. The staff are friendly and helpful and clearly enjoy working there.

The food is good but the place is tiny and you have share tables with strangers. I was not amused by the salt and pepper in open dishes with no spoon surely this is breaking health and safety regulations? My visit was short as staff were trying to clear the table before we had finished. Yet other people were not disturbed.. My friend visited the toilet and a member of staff tried to usher me out! Sullen staff and poor atmosphere.

You have to queue up first and pay so it's hard to secure a vacant table. The staff are not friendly and I was rushed into choosing something as queue of people. Luckily the food was tasty and hot and despite the cramped seating conditions I would go again. I did feel rushed into leaving, the waiter tryed to clear the table before we had finished! This is basic dining and is ok for a quick lunch but not a proper meal out.

Outstanding vegetarian food. The quality and taste is as good as veggie food gets in London. The seating arrangements are cramped. So a visit to 'Food for Thought' is for the food not a relaxed spacious environment. But it is well worth a visit.

Food for thought... it says it all in the name, fresh, healthy, refreshing and made with love- that is what Food For Thought is all about.
You can sit downstairs and relax on cusions in a cute 'santas little grotto' or eat in the main sitting place socialising with others, engaging in a folk-friendly and relaxed atmosphere. It is perfect for lunch or dinner after a day at work or exploring London- you will never be disappointed. My best friend Celine Gamble
and I come here in our lunch brakes, after work and even after a day sight-seeing,
you always know you are welcome at Food For Thought. We usually sit and unwind in the grotto and relax on the cusions with the low table which gives an Eastern feel. We chat and stay there for hours enjoying suculent stir fried vegetables or mouth watering African dishes sprinkled with spices and herbs, giving the cuisine a real cultural taste. The food is to die for, no matter what option you choose. You will never end up with something you don't like. You don't have to vegetarian to go there and enjoy the fresh vegetables and spices. It works for everyone. Celine and I are vegetarian and are inlove with Food For Thought, the food, the staff, the people and the grotto. Everyone there are happy, joyous and enjoy the great atmosphere at this restaurant. However, we don't really treat Food For Thought like a restaurant. It is more like a casual, relaxing, healthy cafe where you can unwind and forget about everything.
The food ranges from stir fried vegetables to African special dishes and always under £10. The cuisines originate from eastern europe to African. You will always have a different type of cuisine and culture when you go there. The desserts range from nutty chocolate brownies ( great after stir-fried vegetables) to homemade scones. Everything is made with love and care and ends up being the best meal you have ever eaten. Food For Thought fills the gap in the market which tells you that you don't have to go to an expensive, posh and dressy restaurnet to get a quality based meal. It is on your door step in Covent Garden for less than £10 and you even get a cultural atmosphere and food.
Enjoy. I am sure you will not have a bad thing to say after you have visited this superb restaurant.

Just recently went in for luch at this jem of a place. Food excellent- staff very friendly. I thought that i had died and gone to veggie heven when i had the salad with the yummy jug of self serve salad dressing. i had the spinach quiche which was yummy as well. make note that the portions are huge so you might need to share it with a friend. the prices were very reasonable- which is a bonus. good job all around- food for thought!!!

This place is a wonderful delight for anyone who loves great vegetarian food. They have a different menu daily and I always tried to get their early to avoid missing out on their soups. This is the place I always go to often when back visiting London.
