I have to say that this is really the worst indian restuarant i have ever been to. We arrived at 19h30 and the restuarant was deserted. We ordered two Biryanis, a garlic nan and two side dishes. The food arrived 20 minutes later and was cold. Besides this, the food was completely bland and lacked any taste. The Curry Sauce with the Biryanis was basically a watery gravy with a few carrots and a potato floating in it. Eating the cold nan was like eating a piece of cardboard. When the manager asked how the food was, we replied in a polite way that it was very tastless. He then proceeded to say that he "had plenty of take away orders that night and no-one else complained. Therefore there can be nothing wrong with the food and it is just us". He also mentioned that he had "been in the restuarant business before I was born and the reason for our complaint was that we did not want to pay the bill becuause my girlfriend ordered too much food!!" This was very rude and made us feel extremely uncomfortable. I understand that the place is reasonably priced, but I find the rudeness and poor food unacceptable. Hence the reason for my writing this review. Lastly, the service charge is hidden in the bill which could lead people to paying this twice. When we asked for this to be removed, the manager replied "I did bring the food to your table, did'nt I", as if he had done us a favour. When one goes out for dinner, it is meant to be a relaxing, enjoyable experience. Papadam is certainly not this...

After reading a review on this site I decided to give it a go. I am pleased to say that the reviews are correct this is an excellent restaurant with extremely helpful staff. I would defiantly recommend this to anyone who is passing by and requires a good feed at a very reasonable price.

Papadam is in a great location in Belesize village and yet the has the prices of Brick Lane, despite the nearest competetion being half a mile a way on Finchey road and serving London's worst curries.

The place is small, but very friendly. The food is tasty and usually reliable. The Lamb pathia is particularly tasty and it is difficult not to order it repetitvely on your subsequent visits.

However, if I had criticisms there would be two; 1. the meat can be supreme but occasionally you receive a dish of tough cubes of flesh. 2. The menu could be more expensive! It seems that people tend to travel distance for this hidden gem,and as a result you may be put off by your fellow diners. We recently had the misforune of sitting adjacent to a couple with little respect for the sanctitiy of food. They proceeded to order far in excess of what even they could possibly mamage to consume. They left the table leaving half-a dozen half-eaten dishes that would only be discarde .The sad fact is that they probably still got paper change from a fifty pound note.
