TimeOut

TimeOut - 2/5

Thursday, September 03, 2009 - It's one of several London boozers recently snapped up by pubco Geronimo Inns and consensus seems to say it's a lot better under the new charge...On the bar, some fine-looking pies give punters the gastronomic glad eye while the menu gives mention to poncified pub classics including a daily curry; ham, egg and chips; beer-battered fish and chips and a ploughman's board. Retro desserts include sherry trifle, Eton mess and a choice of cheese. Special mention must be made of the snacks: Frazzles, Monster Munch and pork scratchings.

It may be a great place if you are a regular; if you are not be prepared to be moved several times (we were "asked" to move 4 times in one evening) and don't expect to be consulted about what is on TV! The food is OK - but please tell the chef sausage rolls are nicer when warm - but being treated like a 2nd class citizen left a really sour taste in the mouth.

I have visited this pub / resturant several times since it opened and it has yet to dissapoint- although it seems to be becoming one of those places where if your not in early you may struggle to find a seat! always busy, always cheery staff, always a fab atmosphere & always a great mix of people. my friend lives nearby & whenever I visit his first suggestion is the curtains up & I am happy to accompany him!- keep it up!

Bar snacks, Bar Snack, Bar Snacks and Doombar. This pub makes wonderful bar snacks and the Doombar bitter is awesome. I had a pork pie with mustard, fried fish, hummus (something for the Mrs) and honey and mustard cocktail sausages delicious …… This is of course, providing you can get served! It would be quicker to get a pint if they employed a platoon of Chelsea Pensioners behind the bar. Stupidly, I returned the following evening for a full meal! Call me a darling, but anywhere you can drink six pints before food arrives has got to get their act together. Anyway, the menu is standard pub fayre including the obligatory fish cake. I opted for the rib eye steak with béarnaise sauce, it was awful and the sauce was an absolute shocker.

The pub / theatre has recently been decorated, which is nice.

Staff - Polite – but shockingly slow / Ambiance – OK/ Décor – Nice / Food – Bad / Value – I value my time more.

Being a local i never went in it. Since the re launch i cannot fault it.

I've now been for drinks and dinner on every occasion. The food was really tasty, good portions, fresh and not the usual fried rubbish in other pubs.

The staff were all very nice, friendly and offered suggestions, were'nt pushy either.

I really like the new awning outside, gives it character.

The internal decor was differant, I was'nt ashamed any longer to take my guests to my local. Well done!.
