Extremely expensive restaurant. The owner takes advantage that it is the only restaurant in the area.

Food is ok but very very overpriced. I went with my family, we had 1 starter (calamari were ok) and as main dish 3 chicken and 2 mixed grill (chicken with 2 overcooked lamb chops). 3 cokes, 2 beers and no desserts. Total bill £ 145 (29£ per head). Ive been in many restaurants in London where I paid 25-30£ and had much better food, more quality, quantity and much better service.

Btw, dont try to understand the bill..it is a white paper written by the owner where you can barely understand whats in it..ive been in taverns with better quality..

Definitely, I would never go again.

having booked a table in advance thinking this might be a nice spot upon arrival with my date, the manager didn't have any recollection of our booking whatsoever and sent us packing. great. he could have been a bit more friendly to say the least and it was embarrassing. went to the aphrodite taverna around the corner where we had a pleasant welcoming and great service. avoid!

lovely food, service non bad, prices ok... but i think they should include the side orders such as rice, potatoes with the meal, they can't just serve the meat by itself.

This was our worst ever experience eating out in London. From the moment we sat down we were hassled to hurry with our order and finish our courses so that they could reuse the table. My plate was cleared by the waitress before my wife had finished her main course!

The menu was expensive for what was really just basic Greek food and the wine prices were laughably expensive.

When we got the bill we questioned the 12.5% service which we challenged. That's when things became mildly threatening as the manager insisted that we HAD to pay it and that it would be against the law to pay only for our meal and leave a tip!

How strange, we were there the same evening as the previous reviewer (12th November) and had a completely different experience - and we aren't regulars, this was our first time.

We found it to be everything you look for in a Greek Restaurant, but rarely find: great food; friendly waiters; relaxed atmosphere. And the complementary dishes (Olives; Radishes; Peppers; etc) given to us on our arrival plus the complementary Turkish Delight (home made??) when we were given our bill was much appreciated.

We had the Mezze, but on hearing it was "generous", ordered 2 for the 3 of us. And as plate after plate of delicious food arrived, we were glad we did ...."generous" was probably an understatement. Sadly I can't comment on "Grandma's Baklava" - so positively reviewed by Rosie previously - as by the time we reached the Dessert stage, we were far too full.

The long (centre) table was occupied by around 30 delegates from a number of different countries (we assumed they were there for a conference in the UK), which we felt proved the point - "discover the Holy Grail and the world beats a path to your door"!!!

We will definitely be going back there again.

we have been here before and the food can be very good however they will try to give you food that is sub standard if they think they can get away with it . No feta and olives in a greek salad is a no no. the table behind us had a greek salad with feta and dressing, not mine just lettice, toms and cucumber. dispointing.

The waiters are charismatic, but some may say pushy because they try to get the delicious food to you as soon as possible. It is evident that the family who opened the restaurant almost 50 years ago is still running it ( especially grandmas baklava) because as soon as you enter the surreal setting it feels unintentionally kitch. If you go with the right attitude you will have the best experience but dont expect that fake "friendly staff"service you see in new and trendy restaurants because this is a classic. Also- if you go at night you will be rushed unless you are a regular. Really worth it

Exactly what the previous comments have said. The interior is small and intimate but homely and welcoming. Halepi gave excellent and friendly service. We were immediately greeted and made to feel at home. Food was superb. We were given olives once we were seated, and our basket of warmed pitta bread was topped up automatically once consumed.

I ordered the Special lamb kebab and my other half ordered the Baby lamb shanks both with rice. Food was cooked to absolute perfection- and generous portions at that! Tender and juicy on the shanks and rustic beautiful grilled flavours of the kebab.

For dessert we ordered the Greek coffee (which comes served in an espresso sized cup) and one slice of baklava to share (by this point we were far too full to have our own dessert each- generous portion again), but before we ordered our dessert, we were given a complimentary small dish of turkish delight. I don't normally like Turkish delight as I find it is perfume flavoured, but this particular one was scrumptious and not perfumed at all!

The bill came to £57 between the two of us. Service charge included. Reasonably priced considering the quality of food and service!

All in all, a rare gem hidden away in Central London. Will definitely go back since it's yards away from us! (They do Takeaways too!!)

I think the previous reviewer must have gone to the wrong restaurant! We love the Halepi, go there on a regular basis, believe firmly in value for money and have yet to be disappointed. Food at the Halepi is superb, from the traditional Greek dishes to the beautiful fresh fish, and as one can plainly see the fresh food being cooked from the restaurant, I can't imagine where the notion of microwaved food comes from. The service is friendly and efficient and we are always made to feel welcome - nothing is too much trouble. However, this is not a restaurant for "Fine dining" but a family run concern that does not set out to impress simply by appearances and slick service but makes one feel at home with the relaxed family atmosphere and excellent Greek food. This is a popular restaurant that is often quite busy and although the staff will always try to help out and fit you in its best to book a table so that you can relax and enjoy the experience to the full. Give it a try!
