Halepi Restaurant and Kebab House

Agree with previous reviews.

I think Halepi may have been a hotspot some years ago, but it does not live up to the excpectations nowadays. Food was okay, nothing special. Service was good. What puts me off from going back is that the menu is overpriced, on top of the 12.5% service charge that is automatically added to the bill they also charge a £1.50 cover charge per person, what this is for I am not sure, probably the olives that have been standing on each table all evening. The restaurant was full of tourists which may explain the rush in getting customers out quickly to sell tables twice in one evening, since most customers would not come back anyway.

The restaurant is totally overrated. I am Greek and I have eaten Greek food all over the world. This is below average. What was very irritating was that the service was very rude and we had the feeling that we were being rushed all the time. We will never go back again and we do not recomment it to anyone. In fact I work in a large organization and when office gatherings come up they always ask me about Greek restuarants and this particluar one. I always say: If you want to go there, I am not following -:)

I completely agree with the review posted on Friday, September 14, 2007 re this restaurant (unfortunately I didn’t read that review before I booked a reservation). This place is simply overrated. We made a reservation at this venue because of good reviews available online (especially Frommer’s). At the onset the owner warned us that we should leave our table within two hours, i.e. 8.30 pm – something that I’ve never heard before. In any case, we stayed hoping that the food would live up to the reputation of this place. It did not. The food was below average. On top of that service was plainly rude at all times. As a corollary, at 8.00 pm the owner came to our table reminding us to leave at 8.25... some minutes later, again, the owner – in a clearly rude tone – came to remind us to leave because he had people waiting for a spot. Of course, we didn’t want to stay any further at that place and left. Something we are sure of is that we will never come back to this place. Clearly, NOT recommendable.

We went there the other night for dinner because it's close to a friend's house - there were four of us and it was the first time most of us were trying the venue. Firstly the place is cramped - they try and squeeze in as many covers as possible and if you happen to be placed next to the door (despite booking in advance!) be prepared to be bumped several times during the meal. Over the course of our evening I was hit in the head with a pitta bread and hit in the back with a chair leg. The food is average but nothing to boast about. Once the meal was over our waiter brought us the check, and demanded payment - this was before we had even been served the coffees we ordered. As soon as we paid, the owner told us he had people waiting so he would request we leave. We didn't even have time to finish our drinks! All this for £25 pp without alcohol! Yet the place is very busy and was packed.

And thats what really annoys me - that people put up with this kind of service when there are so many better restaurants in London to try out. It may have been good, at one point, but now - Not Recommended.

We always go to HALEPI since nearly 20 years!!

Good food and excellent service. Although I went there with my boyfriend in a week day it was very crowded and noisy...this is the only drawback that didn't allow to appreciate the restaurant's atmosphere.

We ordered the pyrenian milk-fed lamb - incredible!!! Everything was absolutely sublime. The service was also really friendly, helpful and the right balance of attentive/unobtrusive!
