Santorini Taverna

I loved this restaurant so much I went here twice during my time in London last summer. The food was excellent and the staff were friendly and attentive. I wish I could have brought this place home with me.

I suspect that the rave reviews about this sorry joint were written by the staff.

Santorini bears absolutely no relation to the blue-skied, idyllic island after which it's named. Dingy, dreary and dull, there were just eight people in the entire place when we ordered.

Making the terrible mistake of ordering a la carte, we were dished up tasteless tabouli, low-grade salmon, a greasy kebab and a mountain of potatoes to disguise the fact that £63 for two people, having two mediocre courses, three glasses of wine between them and a coke, is an utter rip-off.

A 2005 Evening Standard review, linked to Urbanspoon, pointed out the place's outlandish prices and absurdly kitsch decor. Sadly, only the latter has been overhauled.

Halepi, in nearby Leinster Terrace, is a better bet for authentic Greek in the neighbourhood, although it can be very busy and the staff somewhat anxious to hurry you out.

What Santorini needs to do is take a leaf out of The Real Greek's book and serve decently priced mezes accompanied by good value wine. If they don't stop dishing up low-quality, overpriced and overloaded plates of stodgy, fatty, and flavourless food, they'll be out of business before long.

Rip off. They seem to charge as they're please regardless of what you order. Food was ok but not value for money and certainly you would not want to eat it in a restaurant. Service was ok not great and when asked why they charge us for food we never had they came up with all sorts of excuses but would not change the bill. Also tip should be given for good service it should not be added to the bill, especially they shouldn't!! Poor all in all!
