Auberge (Bermondsey)

I ate here last week. It is the worst dining experience I have ever had in London.
- The service was poor at best
- The limited menu was sold out of 3 items at 7pm when we were ordering (we were not advised of this when given the menus)
- I took 20 minutes from being seated to get our drinks
- For starter I ordered duck wraps with plus sauce. It was all cold and the plum sauce was I believe a raspberry jam
- For mains I had the lamb which was ok. My girlfriend ordered the vegetarian ricotta (being vegetarian). She was eventually served the meat lasagne, which we obviously sent back.
- After 10 minutes of waiting and me picking at the lamb while it went cold, the manager returned to advise that due to them being busy it would take half an hour for the ricotta to arrive. We declined having lost appetite. (There were still empty tables in the restaurant at the time)
- By way of compensation we were offered free coffee

I have been eating at this particular branch of Auberge (there are others around the capital) for at least 2 years and have always had excellent service. The staff are really friendly, nothing is ever too much trouble - who said the French could be tricky?
Aside from dining their with freinds, I have also attended a couple of parties there as well and they have managed to keep the service as friendly and personal.
The food has, on occasion, has been a little mean in the size of the portions but recently they seem to have got their act together.
A good all round restaurant that is perfect for chilling out in after a hard week at the office.

We were seated in a non-smoking area around the corner, so the staff couldn't see us, also there were only two waitresses, hence service was unattentive. However, our waitress did try to be helpful when she was there.
My boyfriend had the spaghetti with spicy salami, which was nice, but the portions could have been more generous. My main course was chicken wrapped in parma ham, with a tasty rosti and mange tout, which would have been lovely aside for the excessive amount of sage stuffing which ruined the dish.I may go back, but wont be ordering that dish again.
Oh yes, and the profiteroles portion was miniscule and seriously lacked chocolate sauce. All in all - OK for the price and good atmosphere if you are with friends, but nothing special gastronomically.
