Zafferano

Returned to Zafferano last saturday after having had some nice evening dinners there in the past. The food, as usual, is very good, well presented and nice portions. Regretfully, the service has been appalling. Not only did the Manager fall into a tirade of loud complaints with his staff (and this in front of us) but managed to "freeze" his otherwise very nice waiter, and there was no service at all - until we complained. Hopefully this is a one off! The food is worth going there and customer service can only improve!

A group of six of us went to Zafferano's for dinner last Fri Sept 19th 2008.
Consistent with our reviews, it was a disappointment. We all agreed that there was nothing to justify the Michelin star.
We all only had 2 courses yet the bill exceeded $500!
A very ordinary bottle of Montepulciano was £35 and that, I think, was the cheapest red on the wine list.
The service was friendly and ok, but the servers did have to be told which dish went with which person which was amateurish.
This restaurant is overpriced and overrated and we will not be returning.

Zafferano is pleasant enough, even though I find the Michelin star billing somewhat unfounded.
I wasnt particularly blown away by my tagliolini starter, it was competent without being spectacular. The sea bass main course showed some flair, and the flourish came in the form of an excellent chocolate fondant for dessert.
The problem with Zafferano is the expectation, sitting down for a meal at a Michelin starred restaurant you expect great things, sadly Zafferano didn't deliver that and for me is not in the same league as other Michelin satrred restaurants.
Worth a go I suppose.

I went here for my wedding anniversary. Having been to a number of good Italian restaurants I was apprehensive that Zafferano wouldnt be any different. Initially there was a slightly cramped feeling, with tables being very close together. However the service was very relaxed and we never felt rushed. For the first course I had the home made tagliatelle with beef fillet. This was very full of flavour and matched any pasta dish I had ever eaten before. My wife's Lobster spaghetti was also very pleasant. For the main course I had the Lobster with rocket and apple salad, which was an inspired combination of flavours. My wife's chargrilled monkfish was absolutely delicious. For the dessert the tiramisu was the best I'd ever had. All of this washed down with a bottle of Sangoviese came to a more than reasonable bill for a restaurant of this calibre.
I would recommend this restaurant to anyone and will be going again as soon as possible.

Do not waste your money and time. We went in FEB this year for my husband's birthday. It was total disapointment for such a good review on papers and magazines, which is possibly paid by the restaurant as a marketing.
My husband is such a big fan of Italian and all reviews by media seemed promising. As soon as we entered the restaurant, there were stinky lily flowers which were nearly dying welcoming us. It was not a water, but just lily and they were all over the restaurant and gave me a headache..So I couldn't properly smell or taste the food and wine. However food was very boring and I could cook better food.
The service was very cold and they wanted us to leave as soon as possible. The most guests were foreigners and visitors in London, so they are not regular ustomers.
The price is over priced for what you get both food and service.

Very poor. If this is a Michelin star restaurant it was the worst I've ever been to. My wife's crab starter was not even worth the £7 supplement charged for it and her main course was cold.
The decor is dated and the place feels a little shabby.
It's one saving grace is very good service, unobtrusive but there was always someone on hand. It's a pity the excellent staff are let down by the very poor food.

Anniversary dinner for two and I can't say Im at all disappointed.
Great atmosphere for a damp Sunday evening, my girlfriend and I went for the 4 course menu which was lovely.
Tuna carpaccio was light and smooth, the pheasant ravioli meaty and flavoursome and the venison perfectly cooked.
The wine list is extensive and of good range of both price and quality, the deserts a pleasant end to an evening. Best thing about the place is its atmosphere; warm, friendly and yet still intimate for that romantic occasion.
We will be going back.

Sunday lunch for 2 - 18/11/07.
I'm a big Italian fan but I'm not sure I get this restaurant.
Quality of ingredients is undoubtedly excellent, quality of cooking is not. Starter of Venison Carpaccio was devoid of any flavour, pasta course of Pheasant Ravioli was good but miniscule & underseasoned, main of Suckling Pig was overcooked & dry. Dessert of cherry & almond cake was again overcooked & dry.
Service was good & of the quality expected in this level of restaurant.
I was expecting fantastic flavours expertly executed, maybe the chef has Sunday lunch off!

What a joke. Went for dinner there last night - none of our party was particularly hungry and only ordered one course (pasta) each. I checked if this was OK as the menu gave a price for two or three courses. The waiter tried to push us into starters saying we would otherwise have to wait a long time for our pasta. As a result it arrived promptly - entree size pasta - two with a simple tomato sauce, for which we were charged £22.50 a head.
