To be honest the FOOD is great but they really need to like make some ROOM. Like they seriously should spend some money and upgrade some stuff like their tables (for sure) and chairs. But still if its for the food you guys are going for... It rocks....overall I would give this place a 4.5/5

I have been lucky enough to visit London once or twice a year since 2000. I enjoyed a meal at this restaurant. In fact, the journey would not be complete without some spicy korai kybare lamb from Chambeli. I find the food and variety to be excellent, the service better than average and the prices fair.

In response to the previous review, I cannot emphasize how correct the overall view was. I have never experienced such rude staff. When we asked politely if we could move to a table nearer the window when the restaurant was totally empty, they remarked that 'if other people come in who want to sit there, you will have to pay their bill'. I have never heard anything quite so ludicrous from restaurant staff. Needless to say we did not dine there, but having seen other reviews it does not look like we missed much. I would THOROUGHLY recommend that anyone who wants a pleasant dining experience NOT to eat here.

Terrible, simply terrible. Worst dining experience in more than a decade.
During a previous visit to London 2 years ago I had a pleasant experience here and so thought it would be nice place to go to on this trip (along with 6 others, several of whom had never previously been to London). Unfortunately, Chambeli provided the worst restaurant experience I have had in a very long while.
The staff were rude and pushy. When asked, politely, if they could remove the ice from a glass they simply tipped the glass, pouring water onto a camera bag.
The food is a preboiled mix-n-match affair - using low quality ingredients (several pieces of lamb possessed more gristle than meat). The quality is more what you may expect of a post closing-time curry house that tends to drunks.
Then after adding a 12.5% surcharge to the bill, they failed to return the change.
There was one waiter. If there is justice in the after-life there will be a hot pitchfork waiting for his rear.

Awful dining experience. My husband had been ranting about this restaurant for years, so we decided to go on a date. We arrived and were approached by the Manager who told us to take a seat and shoved menus in our hands. 10 mins later we were shown to our table which had been vacant from the time we got there, so why the wait?
We ordered our food and the chutney had a piece of old poppadom in it, yuk. I sent it back and got another one. When our drinks came my Coke was completely flat but I did not complain as the Manager was rude and patronising. When our meals arrived the waiter could not reach my side of the table so flung my plate to me instead of walking round and placing it in front of me.
The food was mediocre as the chicken jalfrezi just tasted of garam masala and nothing else.
Three things to look out for here:
1- they have the bloody nerve to charge 12.5% service charge to the bill even though their service is not worthy of it
2- each customer must order a main meal. I'm not a big eater so my husband and I normally share a dish.
3- the manager is very rude, abrupt, patronising and not very flexible with how you want your meals.
I would say STEER CLEAR! I know that I will be. It was such a shame as my husband and I don't get much of a chance to go on a date. CHAMBELI RUINED MY EVENING!

I just want to warn you how bad this place is. The staff are rude and lie. (There is no welcome either when you enter, they just rush you to the table and the menu is nothing special except the expensive prices. I had a bad experience recently which I would like to tell you about. My friend and I ordered number 35 the Lamb Tikka Biriany, which is house special because of the added sultanas and almonds. When the dish came there was no sultanas or almonds. We were unable to attract the attention of a waiter so we started the meal.
About half way through the meal we were able to attract the attention of a waiter and said to him about the missing ingredients. He just agreed they were missing. After some more stern conversation he just said that the kitchen was busy and they must have forgot to put them in. He offered to go and get the sultanas only in a separate dish. We said that we wanted what ordered. As this was not possible we would just pay for what we had been given. This was number 28. Chicken Makhni (Chicken Tikka Massala) at £8.93 instead of the £11.95 or the house special. He would not accept this and said to us that he was not is a position to make the reduction. We then asked to speak to the manager as he was the only one who could authorise the reduction. We were then told the manger was not there and could not be reached. He then walked away. Not happy at this outcome we managed to speak to another waiter about the problem. This new waiter then went to the manager and he came over the table. He also agred that the food was not what we ordered and did nothing, we then asked for further comment he would not make one. Even though he was the manager and our company uses the restaurant often (we our company used to, not after this!) he would still do nothing. At the end of the meal we just left without paying the tip. DO NOT GO TO THIS RESTAURANT

Dreadful! Honestly dreadful. Yes the decor is decent, but everything else is so poor. The waiters want to rush you from the start and are not friendly... not once did they welcome us. The menu is standard... with a few odd exceptions of carrot and coriander soup.. what?! The food arrived quickly... too quickly to be honest, only 7 minutes for a group of four on a busy saturday night, i didn't think the food was fresh.. and i was right. My sheesh kebeb must have been made a few days ago as it was very dry and rubbery. My main was Karahi Khyberi Lamb, and i'm afraid to say it was so bland and greasy.. two things i hate. I literally just picked the pieces of meat which were swimming in a pool of fat, and cried at the fact i'd been charged £8 (oh and dont forget the compulsary 10% service charge which was not deserved).
In all the four of us were seated and had left in a little over an hour, and my friends felt they had a similar experience (so i wasn't just over reacting). Dont belive the AA award on the menu as it must have been from a LONG time ago. I feel the reason why the staff dont care is because the restaurant attracts a lot of tourists who will never return, once you're seated they've got your cash, so why bother trying? Truthfully all....avoid as its so poor.

I have had the pleasure of eating there on several occasions now. Good decor, nice furniture, tablecloths, napkins etc. The food and service have always been excellent. All nicely presented and with a subtle balance of herbs and spices - an excellent example of indian cooking.
