I attended the Golden Dragon yesterday with my Grand Daughter for the first time.

Plan of attack. Stand in Gerrard Street and study which restaurant the Chinese were using, hence the Golden Dragon.

We waited fifteen minutes for a table as I am unable to make stairs and needed ground floor table.

The staff were superb. The food was the best Chinese food we had ever tasted, and we hit many Chinese establishments in our travels.

I do not have any doubt that the venue gets my five-star rating in all areas.

Any restaurant will have negative results as you can't please everyone all the time, and some customers are professional moaners and complainers, no matter what in the hope they get a discount or free meal!

Don't misunderstand me as I am the first to complain to any failings, however I offer a balanced view from a first time customer. Well done Golden Dragon.

Service was superb, food excellent, price very reasonable and fair.

Extremely disappointed and upset with how things were dealt with.

We had a table booked for Saturday evening knowing it would be busy. I had rang ahead to warn the restaraunt I have a wheat allergy but could not be understood!! I should have cancelled our covers but didn't want to make a fuss as my mother in law had arranged the meal for the 10 of us visiting the City.

In the front of the menu it states to let your waiter know of any allergies which I did and also asked his advice as to what was nice and plain and without wheat, he didn't understand what I was saying, went away then returned and said that chicken skewers would be ok so I ordered those with some seaweed and boiled rice to be on the safe side (as I am still getting used to this myself as only newly diagnosed) Our meals came and the skewers were coated in batter!!!!!!!!

Now the whole table, some of whom I had never met before know I have an allergy and ended being the topic of conversation for the evening!!

EXTREMELY EMBARRASING

This was the first time I ordered food here. From the beginning it was the worst. I had a lady that I couldn't understand and who couldn't understand me. Then would yell numbers back at me. I guess that was her way of telling what was going on. Then the delivery man who was so rude was yelling at me because I missed a call from him. Needless to say I never got the food to taste and was cursed at for not taking the food. So by far I don't recommend this place to anyone.

As a fequent visitor to London, Iv'e walked through chinatown many times. As everyone knows if you want a good chinese meal go to where the chinese people eat.

I eventual picked the Golden Dragon partly for the amount of awards in the window and the number of chinese people eating and waiting to get in. The place was absolutely rammed to the rafters but there was generally a good atmosphere with the various tables around me all seeming to be enjoying themselves.

I asked for a table and was told I would have to wait about 10 minutes. Within a few minutes my table was ready and I was shown upstairs. I ordered Cantonese beef and fried rice and a can of coke. The waiting staff were prompt but not very friendly. (The staff obviously all work really hard for such a packed capacity) my food arrived quickly and I didn't have to wait ages to pay the bill. (which I prefer over having staff faking being my friend)

My meal was good honest traditional chinese restaurant food that you can get from many places. The price for my meal was reasonable and was the same price as similar venue's where I live in Birmingham.

THIS RESTAURANT IS A DISGRACE !

I've never had such a terrible experience in a restaurant before and I'm an easy-to- please customer. I don't have any comments to make about the food because we didn't even get to tasting it ! When we were ready to place our order, the waitress kept telling us we should have something else to accompany our dishes, making us feel we didn't know anything about Chinese food, which I humbly accepted at first...But she was so unpleasant and so confusing that we came to have doubts about what was going on when she suddenly let out the back of her mind and told us that the amount of the bill would not be high enough !! Not even smart enough to make us believe she was honest !! So we just walked out as we told her that this was absolutely unacceptable...

I've been a patron of Golden Dragon for the last 20 years, so obviously I liked the food. But I returned a couple of days ago, for a takeaway (8 dishes, including Beef chow mein, Singapore noodles, Crispy beef etc), after a gap of 2 years.

My, was I disappointed ! The food was flavourless and overpriced for what it was...a far cry from the Golden Dragon that I loved and patronised for many a meal. The quality has plummeted. This restaurant is simply living on its reputation of having ONCE being the best restaurant in Chinatown. What a shame !

Incidentally, I had the same disappointing experience with another great Chinatown restaurant of yesteryear, the Mayflower. So it would appear that the fall in standards applies to more restaurants than just the Golden Dragon. That said, take a look at Mr Kong while you're there. I've not been there in over a year but remember it as being reasonable in both quality and price.

Obviously, because my trip to Golden Dragon was a takeaway, I can't comment on either service or atmosphere (I've only graded it with 5 for both because the review website requires you to complete all sections, else it rejects the review).

Avoid this restaurant at all costs! Lengthy wait for wrong order. Wrong order then taken away and masked with "right" sauce. Food cold, waiters indifferent and tables cleared whilst you are still eating. To add to the litany of disaster, an over inflated bill with added gratuity for disgraceful service. Choose any other restaurant, they might be glad of custom in this present economic climate!

I don't believe some people, some customers did not realise chinese food is very different from other European countries or the other places. I love the food there is very good. My daughter loves it, and she is a very fussy eater. If she thinks is good, it must be good.

Understand the culture and respect the staff, then you will get good service and food.

Well done!!!

I went here for some dim sum and thought the price was reasonable (considering the fact it's London) and the dim sum tasted authentic.

I don't understand why there are so many bad reviews for this place, but I thought the ambience and service was good. I went around 2.30pm and the place was packed with mostly Chinese people...so I'm sure the place is good as it's one that is frequented by the Chinese themselves.

I will definitely go again for their dim sum and I would be tempted to try out some of their other dishes as well while I'm there.

The worst restaurant i`ve ever visited!!

The food was terrible, starting with jelly soup, finishing with strange taste noodles. Glasses were dirty, and taste of juice very cheap. In grilled pork dumplings i find tendon, how i thought, or something similar.

Then when we even could not finish our meal, we asked for a bill. They brought bill clipped together with receipt, which was half written in chinese (???) and it was 78 pounds, when we counted manually our dishes we thought it will be max 50 pounds...We asked waiter why this bill is so high, can we see normal receipt? When he brought receipt we saw half of that we even didn`t eat :SSS after 15 mins manager came to apologise and gave us right bill, it was 38 pounds! Then we waited for another person to come with card machine for 10 mins, when we already paid waiter asked us to hold on, he will find out something ( they didn`t put service charge for us). We didn`t wait, we just left. I think they have no right to ask us about service charge after so poor service. Shocked about restaurant quality in Central London
