Old Amalfi

We needed a handy place to eat between a visit to a British Museum Exhibition and a show in Shaftsbury Ave and Old Amalfi on Southampton Row was one of several options. The restaurant looked pleasant and not too busy and the menu looked reasonable so we decided to look no further and stepped inside. The greeting was friendly and welcoming and we were soon seated (though our next visit we would ask for a table away from the door - it was a cold day).
All we wanted was a nice pasta dish, some wine and perhaps desert and not to hang around to be late for our show and I am happy to say all boxes were ticked. My wife enjoyed her smoked salmon linguine was tasty and my bacon and sausage sauced penne was flavoursome and hearty - exactly as they should be.
Service was quick but not rushed, and pleasent throughout and orders were accurately carried out despite being handled by several servers.
The dessert menu could do with a little more imagination but good nonetheless.
We would certainly consider this place again, and spend more time to investigate something more than just pasta.

We didn't know this restaurant and entered based on the cosy interiour. We had a superb evening!
We had a bruschetta and soup (ministrone) for starters, followed by a pizza with potatoes and italian sausage, and a pizza david e golia (chicken, olives, mozarella, chili, ...). All was prepared the italian way and with fresh ingredients. The red house wine was very good and even the water is italian here. We enjoyed every bite of our meals!
Last but not least, the service was excellent. All in all you get great value for your money.
We had diner for two at december 29th 2010.
