Very nice to see such positive reviews of this establishment. Fifteen of us met for a family celebration lunch today and found it an ideal place - delightful, attentive service, very good food and wine, a homely, welcoming atmosphere and an entirely reasonable bill. The restauranteur who gives it the thumbs-down here must either have got out of bed the wrong side that morning or eaten something earlier and elsewhere which disagreed with him.

A great little restaurant. An unpreposessing location and frontage and no fancy decor but a friendly greeting and plenty of attentive staff. The menu looks like the usual Italian fare but the food is made with fresh ingredients and is very good. I have to say that the Halibut I had was first rate and modestly priced. Most prices are very reasonable, perhaps spoiled by the rather high cost of bread and coffee (these added £4 per head to our bill). House red was also excellent.

There is a live piano music from about 8pm provided by different music students, who are pretty good and who will play requests. Strongly recommended.

We were attending a conference and I took a group of 12 people to this restaurant having read the reviews but still not quite certain! It turned out to be really good - the food was excellent, well cooked and tasty. The service was fast and efficient and the atmosphere is lively and friendly. I have no hesitation in recommending anyone to go there.

I saw reviews for this restaurant before we went to London for the weekend but thought it was out of our area, but found it accidentally recognised it and decided to give it a try. It's been there 40 yearsso it must be doing somthing right.

Firsly - the staff - friendly, helpful attentive without sitting on your shoulder (compare to the hotel I stayed at which I shall not name here but I am sure staff were on commission based on number of plates they cleared)

Food -- far more than just pasta and pizza , fish dishes delicious

Prices -- I guess a la carte 10-20% more expensive than Manchester (home for me) but it is our capital city, but 2 course special for under a tenner!!!

Overall -- A long time since I spent a night in London as a tourist, and I was worried about being "ripped off", but at Trattoria Verdi, far from it. Good value, good atmosphere oh and forgot, a pianist

My husband and I visited Trattoria Verdi during the London Marathon week end... the place was bustling with people upstairs and downstairs. Waiters were passing by our table carrying huge trays with mouthwatering dishes. Our meal was delicious, i had whitebait as a starter and the homemade tortellonis for my maincourse, couldnt eat any dessert but i tasted the creme caramel chosen by my husband and it was extremely good. The service was excellent, sure we did wait for a table but with a glass italian wine. I really loved the atmosphere with the multi-cultural staff, colourful frescos and paintings of Italian scenes and the delighful background music. Definitely a place to go to if you are staying in the bloomsbury area! Will go back on my next visit to london.

Visited this restaurant on Wednesday 12th April.

Suitably welcomed and promptly shown to a table.

We had only just sat down when the waitress appeared to ask for our drinks order.

Our garlic bread starter never arrived, but did appear on the bill! However it was removed when we pointed out that we never received our starter.

The pizza main course was on the soggy side with little topping.

After two setbacks we decided to give the expensive desserts a miss although they did look delicious.

We were led to believe that there was live music, but the pianist didn't start playing until well after 8pm.

Overall a big disappointment!

I first ate at Verdi with my wife and had a great meal including a fantastic Tornedos Rossini.Since then I have needed to stay in Bloomsbury several times a year for work reasons and having looked at other restaurants, always come back to Verdi for the food, atmosphere and service. I particularly recommend their Dover Sole Meuniere, Veal Milanese and Saltimbocca.

Forget this place if you want to be treated like a customer. We booked a non smoking table for four and turned up on time. There was no vacant table so they put us in the smoking area and told to wait whilst they "cleared a non smoking table for us". We waited. No drinks were offered and no memu presented. After about 10 minutes, we asked about progress in getting our reserved table and were told the same story. Again we waited, next to smokers and with no drinks and again nothing happened. It transpired that there was no free table and they were just hoping we'd keep waiting. So after 20 wasted minutes, being fobbed off with an untruth and just left to fester, we walked out. Other diners also seemed to be frustrated with poor service. Be warned. Find somewhere which values your business.

We visited the Verdi on Sat 3 Dec 05. We were a party of 8 weary travellers exhausted after a day of Chritmas shopping. From entry to departure the atmosphere and service was excellent. The food was authentic italian from the sardines to the meatballs and the superb desserts. We sat next to the pianist who played continously with a wide range of music. An outstanding evening made the more so by Rogero, the manager and the friendly staff.I felt I was back in Italy on holiday. We will return.
