I remember when this place was Whittingtons Wine Bar and when it became a curry house it was a welcome change. I have been going to this place fairly regularly over the years and aalways found it a bit inconsistent but when it was good, it was very good.
I'm afraid I've changed my mind now and taken it off my list after my recent experience of it. I met a friend up town and suggested we head for the Cannon Tandoori as it was one of my favourites. Bad move.
We had the set meal which consisted of chicken tikka, onion bhaji and sheek kebab for starters. The chicken tikka and sheek kebabs had to go back as they weren't cooked. I think this must have upset the chef as the chicken madras and lamb curry were severely hot. Too hot to eat sadly, so we paid and left after complaining again.
To add insult to injury, they tried to add on extras that we never had.
Not sure if this has changed hands recently but if they carry on like this, it will be soon

I have been here now about 4 times. I like to think of it as a subterranean wonder. This place is quite a gem in a pocket of the city that is otherwise quite devoid of Indian Restaurants. I don't normally write reviews, but I am prompted by the earlier negative review which I feel is quite unjust. Granted that the place and decor is basic, not the kind of place that one would go to for a romantic or up market evening out, but the Cannon St Tandoori has some of the best tasting Indian food I have ever had the chance to eat, and believe me I have had quite a lot in my time. Let's face it that most of the customers to this place are people pouring out of a Bow Lane pubs and the like, and mostly looking for a late night Indian food fix after a standard City booze binge. They could quite easily get away with lower standards, but they don't. I have even recommended this restaurant to Indian people at work, some of whom have relatives in the Indian Restaurant game, and they have always commented back to me in agreement on what great tasting food is served here.
BASIC DECOR - GREAT FOOD.

I don't have any real complaints about this place. It's nothing fancy but the food is always satisfying and reasonably priced and the service attentive. The entrance could do with some smartening up, but the actual dining area has a pleasant enough atmosphere. Perfect for a lunchtime curry in the City.

This is the worst Curry House I have ever had the misfortune to happen upon. I find it hard o believe it is listed under restaurants. The meat was cheap and badly prepared. The rice was stuck together in big lumps and even the pappadums where inedible.
