This is the worst French Restaurant I have every been to in London. Not because of the food, which I would class as no more than striving for mediocrity. Upon arrival we ordered a wine from the oddly laid out wine list (set out by grape and not region) which we had to request three times for prior to its arrival after we were half way through our starter. This set the tone for the evening where it was three requests for our mains, deserts and even the bill.

If you like French food, good services, nice ambiance and attention from the staff I highly recommend you avoid this place.

Last night's visit to La Cave was possibly the worst evening I have ever had in London. Rude, inattentive staff who got orders wrong AND made us miss our train. We were told there were no tables in the restaurant (even though it was empty inside), so ate the 'snack menu' outside. La Cave looks terribly charming, and the 'snacks' were really quite good, but don't waste your time. Shame really.

Furtively tucked away around the corner from Southwark cathedral, this intriguing place suggests adulterous assignations!

Good wine list - the 'Madiran' is so big it announcesvand "I'm here!".

The knowledgable staff are tolerant and the cheese board is nicely done.

I am so shocked to read the reviews here ,who treated staff with no respect and received the frosty response they might deserved I have been to the restaurant on Tuesday night we were the last customers left (23h30) but were in no way hurried .In fact I love this place and its staff very friendly and where meals at smartly made impeccable service very reasonable priced a la carte and great wine list .

and if you haven’t been yet ,I urge you to go soon .

the evening started off well as we approached the attractive bar/restaurant and when we were eventually seated the food was capable if not ever fully justifying the price.

the cheeseboard was good, if lacking a little imagination with the availability of superb british cheeses not a stones throw away at Neal's Yard Dairy.

my big concern was the dismissive way we were treated by one of the waiters at the end of the meal. I understand that restaurants need covers and i never want to dwell at a table after the meal, but we were told (i.e. not asked) not once, but three times to leave the table despite having asked for and not receiving the bill. this meant that i felt compelled to deduct the 12.5% service charge that had already been added to the bill (don't know if other readers find this as presumptuous as i do?), something that i have never done before and hope not to again.

the director recognised the embarrassment caused to us by his waiting staff and offered a complimentary glass of champagne, but even this would not take away the bad taste.

in summary, it is a capable restaurant, somewhat overpriced with staff who are not trained in dealing with customers in a polite way. i for one will not be venturing back - after all, why settle for such treatment when there is plenty of choice around?
