Ate there last night - 3rd December 2011. The food was really good and most of the staff were polite and helpful. However, the head waiter or manager was probably one of the most unhelpful and grumpy I've ever had the misfortune to be served by. As there were 2 samosas, could I have one vegetable and one meat? 'No.' Not, 'Sorry, that's not possible.' but just 'No.' Ladies sititng near with a very, very full table top aksed if they could possibly have a small side table. 'No.' He rather spoils the place and, if you're served by him, he shoud be paying you the 121/2% service charge! Diners at the next table shared my opinion.

It seems this restaurant has its good and bad days. This is a shame, since they have an enviable position on a busy street with as much passing trade as they could wish for.

Personally, I seem to have only visited on their good days. The food and service are always of a good standard. I find I always eat the lot, which is a good sign.

It's a little pricey, but they have so much passing trade they can probably get away with this. It's not unjustified, however, since it's still within reasonable limits.

Absolute rubbish. Its hard to believe that they are still operating after giving such poor service and food.

I am not exaggerating here, the coke warm and flat, the butter naan had no butter, the rice tasted old and the Paneer Sag was a disgrace. The waiter was disinterested and bored, and even the after dinner mints had a strange green smear on it!

This is restaurant dining at its absolute worst, I and my wife had to find some ice cream to try and rid ourselves of the horrible taste.

Avoid at all costs.

The restaurant is worst restaurant I have ever visited. The staff is too rude and least bothered about customer. The manager or who so ever had no respect for customer and miss treat us. I want some authority to definetly check the restaurant and take action against such restaurant who miss behaves with customer. My trip to London was fantastic but visit to this restuarant made is my worst ever experience in a restaurant.

Fortunetly we did not has food as we ate enough of insult and came out.

Not even worth rating this place! Poorest customer service abilities. The restaurant manager was rude, lacked any bit of common sense and was utterly foolish. No amount of education will teach him business skills. The look of the place is worth mentioning: only for bad reasons. The restaurant is narrow and the carpet smells unpleasant as well, I can only imagine how the kitchen and toilet must look like!

If you are vegetarian, forget about ordering any of the dishes as main course because the "restaurant's policy" doesn't allow you to purchase veggie only dishes: even if it meant that you order 3 naans+1 vegetable curry + 1 Baingain bharta + 1 bhindi masala!

In all, if you are a hungry tourist and around the area, just bite your hunger and don't step in to this place!

Villiers Street is a narrow and fast-flowing street, one of the busiest streets in London, which links the Embankment tube station and Charing Cross railway station.

There is a small restaurant called the Grand Indian Restaurant. It is very similar in character to the street it is on, narrow, busy and provides a fast service.

Once, i went there and told the staff I needed a quick meal as i had to catch a train. My meal was served within seven or eight minutes of ordering, probably the fastest meal i have been served in a very long time.

I ordered a duck karahi, niramish as a side dish and a peshwari naan, the food was tremendously good. I was so impressed, i now go regularly with my family.

The restaurant is simply decorated, lively and clean, as can be seen from the toilets which are very neat and clean.

The restaurant does have a twelve and half per cent service charge but it is very easily forgiven considering what you are getting.

Two years ago I went to the Grand Indian Restaurant 2. As it was around the corner from where I worked, I ate there a couple of times. Food was not great, some of the dishes were too salty and the meat was not tender. Waiters were very rude and the toilets were in a bad state. Since then, I decided not to go back.

Recently, a friend of mine convinced me to go back to the restaurant, knowing that I had a bad experience at the place. I did go and to my astonishment the place had been turned around. Food was delicious, waiters were friendly, service was great, the toilets and basement newly refurbished (neat and clean), probably the best I have seen.

I consider myself a regular customer there and do recommend to anybody who is in the area looking for a good curry. A bit pricey but worth it.
