Some of the best flavours to be found in London, and the closest thing to authentic Khmer cuisine I've had outside Cambodia! My girlfriend and I still rave about our meal, months later.

The atmosphere is less of a restaurant and more of a relaxed cafe. If you are looking for special ambiance, you'll be disappointed. But if you want a clean, bright and area place to eat an amazing meal, park yourself out front early (discounts for early evening diners) and wait for them to open the door.

Don't be put off by the low ratings for service. The staff are friendly and welcoming, but time isn't a big concern. They opened 25 minutes late, despite us hanging around out front the whole time. Even then, they seemed surprised to see us.

We went to the Lemongrass on Friday, 18 August, 2006 after a brilliant evening performance at the Roundhouse, a 15 minute walk away. We were a little put off initially as there were only two other diners (at 8.45 on a Friday). The food was excellent and we had a nice bottle of wine to go with it. Our only criticism would be that there was zero atmosphere. The staff were friendly and efficient but once the cooking was finished, there was no background music and with no other customers (we were the only two left at this stage) it was extremely quiet and when the staff and chef came to sit in the restaurant to have their meals, we felt like we were intruding! Once again, the food was great.

Terrible place. Grumpy staff, bland food, zero atmosphere.

Don't waste your money here with all the other wonderful dining options in London.

Never again!

Hidden away in the back streets of Camden Town, the restaurant itself is small and intimate, clean and bright – perfect for couples or small groups of people. There is an excellent selection of starters including the exquisite mango salad – chunky slices of ripe mango topped with red onion, carrot and cucumber shavings, lemon juice and coriander. The Lemongrass soup is another taste sensation. It is loosely based on the popular Thai tom yum soup and contains prawns, chunks of tomato and pineapple, mint, coriander and a chilli kick that balances the flavours marvellously. The legendary lok luk steak is an ideal main course – succulent cubes of beef in a delicious garlic sauce with black pepper. The ginger chicken with peppers, onion and tomato was also excellent, as was the sweet chilli chicken with its subtle zesty flavour and decent chilli kick. Pak choi, an oriental vegetable, dressed with a light garlic and ginger sauce is a tasty accompaniment to any of the main meals. For dessert, the banana fritters are delicious and fresh lychees or pineapple are an appetizing and healthy alternative for after the meal. The blend of subtle Thai flavours and the unique Cambodian influence make all the dishes tasty, light and thoroughly enjoyable.
